His $120 million restructured contract that he signed in 2022 runs through the 2026 season with the Miami Dolphins. Although he is due a substantial $36 million in the final year, none of that salary is currently guaranteed.
This contractual structure creates a significant “out” for the team, as cutting or trading him before March 2026 would save them a large portion of his cap hit, though the non-guaranteed nature of that final year’s compensation makes his immediate injury a major factor in his future with the team.

Speaking of how The Doplins played on Monday, the team was ahead 10-3 early in the second half when the unsettling play occurred. Less than two minutes after halftime, Hill hauled in a crucial 10-yard pass from Tua Tagovailoa to convert a tough third-and-8. Unfortunately, as he went out of bounds, his left leg got caught underneath him and bent at a horrifyingly awkward angle, causing the injury that required him to be taken to the hospital immediately.
Irrespective of everything, the Miami Dolphins managed to secure their first win of the season, beating the Jets with a final score of 27-21. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill was a key contributor early on, tallying six receptions for 67 yards before an unfortunate exit. Even with that early departure, his season totals through four games are impressive: 21 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown.
How the future of the Miami Dolphins looks with Tyreek Hill out due to injury
With Hill out, it’s clear the Dolphins are in a tough spot. His speed and quickness are absolutely central to Coach Mike McDaniel‘s offense. Hill isn’t just a great runner; he’s an elite receiver who was a crucial factor in their performance. It is just Justin Jefferson who has more receiving yards than Hill. Despite the scary circumstances, Hill showed tremendous leadership and resolve. Coach McDaniel later praised Hill’s demeanor, saying,
“He was inspiring in that situation, and I think his teammates benefited from that.”
Apparently, Hill was even joking with teammates while on the cart as he left the field. McDaniel credited this positive attitude with helping the rest of the team stay focused and ultimately clinch the win.

Considering the current situation, the Dolphins’ offense faces a massive void, requiring several key players to step up immediately. Receiver Tahj Washington is expected to take on a more prominent role, thanks to his reportedly strong showing in training camp. Tight end Darren Waller’s involvement in the passing game will also increase significantly. Critically, running back De’Von Achane will be under high pressure to expand his already versatile production, as he is currently one of the league’s best in terms of receptions and receiving yards since the start of last season.
The Dolphins are set to face the Carolina Panthers next on 5th October.
