Philadelphia Eagles starting center Cam Jurgens suffered a knee injury in the first half of the game against the Minnesota Vikings, casting a spotlight on the team’s depth concerns at the position, as his status is questionable to return.

What makes his injury a costly affair is that Nick Sirianni’s roster reportedly had no other active, pure center backup for the game. This lack of depth was immediately criticized by observers, including Eagles writer Anthony DiBona, who posted on X:

“Eagles opting to have their only real backup center inactive is proving costly now.”

The severity of the injury to Eagles center Cam Jurgens became clearer shortly after halftime, as the team officially ruled him out for the rest of the game against the Vikings. Jurgens was spotted with a brace on his right knee after his trip to the blue medical tent earlier in the game.

His exit forces the Eagles to rely on Brett Toth at center. Toth is a familiar face on the line, having started at left guard last week against the Giants in place of Landon Dickerson. While Toth has stepped up earlier this season, his previous performances, even under the coaching of the highly regarded Jeff Stoutland, haven’t been as seamless in protecting Jalen Hurts.

The Eagles’ injury woes are starting to stack up at a tough time. As reported by 94WIP’s sideline reporter Devan Kaney, Jurgens was just one of three questionable players who have now been officially ruled out for the remainder of the game. Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. (ankle) and outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari (hamstring) will also not return.

With another game before their Week 9 bye, the team’s depth is about to be heavily tested, requiring the remaining players to quickly step up and fill crucial roles. It looks like the Eagles can use all the players in the current situation that they can get.

Brandon Graham is reportedly making a comeback

It looks like Brandon Graham might not be done with football after all! Just eight months after he officially retired from the NFL, the veteran defensive end is reportedly talking with the Philadelphia Eagles about a potential return.

Graham, who is 37, was the longest-serving player in the franchise’s history with 15 seasons, 206 games, and 76.5 sacks. He even helped the team win Super Bowl LIX and is famous for his game-changing strip-sack of Tom Brady in Super Bowl LII. After retiring, he became a co-host on the NFL Network’s Good Morning Football and launched his own podcast. It seems his passion for the game remains strong, something the Eagles need at the moment.

Sirianni’s team’s defense has been weak this season, especially when it comes to pressuring the quarterback. They rank near the bottom of the league, managing only nine sacks in the first six games. To make matters worse, only one of those sacks has come from an active edge rusher (Patrick Johnson).

Injuries and unexpected retirements have decimated the pass rush, including Za’Darius Smith’s sudden exit and Nolan Smith Jr. being placed on injured reserve with a triceps injury.

Adding Graham back to the roster would immediately inject much-needed experience, power, and leadership into a struggling defense. His return could be the boost the team needs to fix its pass-rush problem.
