Heading into the Week 2 showdown against the Vikings, the Falcons have dropped their official injury report. Sure, there are some bumps, given that three players are listed as questionable, four more are out, but here’s the bright side. After the rough opener against the Buccaneers, Raheem Morris and his crew actually have a reason to feel good.

It comes down to a pair of wideouts: Drake London and Darnell Mooney. Starting with London, the head coach earlier expected the 24-year-old wideout to suit up on Sunday. “That’s not saying that he is,” Morris said on Wednesday. “But when you ask me, ‘Do I expect him to play?’ Of course. Drake is an ultimate tough guy, and when he says he’s going to practice, that tells you a lot.”

Fast forward to now, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed that London is good to go against Minnesota, after the fourth-year wideout went down with a shoulder injury against the Bucs. The reports confirmed that London hurt his shoulder during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss with less than three minutes remaining before the final whistle.

The injury looked like it happened on third-and-4, when Michael Penix Jr. threw up a pass to London in the end zone. From what we heard, London landed on his right shoulder after the Bucs CB Jamel Dean made the tackle. The pass was ruled incomplete. Morris shrugged it off. But the call stood. That put the Falcons down 17-13. Just a couple of plays later, Penix scrambled 4 yards himself for a TD.

Right after that went down, the Falcons listed London as questionable. And he never came back on the field. The 24-year-old finished the game with 8 receptions for 59 yards in an effective Falcons’ passing game. At the start of this week, the skepticism around Drake London’s return was palpable. Fast forward to now, he’s all set to return against the Vikings after participating in full practice on Friday. And yes, he’ll be complemented by Mooney.

That’s a wrap for Darnell Mooney’s hiatus

Darnell Mooney remained on the sidelines throughout training camp, a trend that continued into the preseason as well. The sixth-year wideout tweaked his shoulder in the very first practice and has been rehabbing ever since. Even in Week 1, Mooney got in only a limited amount of practice and was questionable to play. In the end, he didn’t suit up for the opener.

“We’ll see as far as Mooney and playing and all those things,” the HC said a couple of days ago. “But we’ll get him out at practice. That’s always fun, putting him back into all the stuff that we’ve been doing. And we’ll get a look and see toward the end of the week what he’s got going on.” Fast forward to now, he reportedly participated in Week 2 practices, and after a full day of practice on Friday, he has been announced as good to go against the Vikings.

However, it won’t be wrong to say that in Mooney’s absence in the season opener, the Falcons still managed to put up a good outing when it came to the passing game. Penix Jr. racked up 27-of-42 for 298 yards and a lone touchdown. As for his receiving corps, Bijan Robinson completed 6 receptions for 100 yards, as the Falcons put up nearly 300 passing yards. While the game didn’t go Atlanta’s way (lost 23-20), having Drake London and Darnell Mooney back adds a nice boost of optimism for the Falcons.
