FOX had to shuffle things around in their broadcasting booth after that Mark Sanchez incident in Indianapolis a couple of weeks back. And ever since, it seems like the network has been facing difficulties. But if we’re being honest, whatever’s been going wrong isn’t really about Sanchez or his replacement. The real issue?

It seems like the network itself has been struggling to get its act together. This week, the New York Jets are hosting the Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium for their Week 7 matchup. And for the second time since Sanchez’s departure, the network is running into audio problems, resulting in struggles among the commentators as well as the supporters.
Just last week, FOX announced Mark Schlereth and Chris Myers as Sanchez’s replacements, and they’re back at it this week. But a few moments into the game, fans are already voicing complaints, noting that the commentators are sounding muffled during their coverage of the Jets vs. Panthers. To put that in perspective, for Schlereth and Myers, this issue has been persisting for the past couple of weeks.

During the Week 6 matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Seattle Seahawks, the network ran into a system malfunction during the second quarter of the game. On top of that, one of the broadcasters was reportedly heard saying, “I can’t hear the producer,” while the others echoed the same sentiment.

As per the Seahawks report, Mookie Alexander, “this was a pretty big game and the production values were a step above public access…The audio cut out, the video froze, it was just terrible to watch. Seattle is off FOX for a month, thankfully.” Fast forward to now, and the league is struggling with the same issue for the second time in two weeks, and so are Schlereth and Myers. And yes, so are the supporters.

The supporters are getting 1940s vibes during the Jets vs. Panthers
It’s Week 7 of the 2025 NFL season, but somehow, fans are already feeling straight-up 1940s vibes. Some viewers joked that the audio glitches gave them that old-school, nostalgic feel, while others weren’t holding back at all, calling out the network for what many are calling a painfully outdated broadcast experience.
One person straight-up asked, “Why does the audio on the Panthers Jets game sound like it’s from the Great Depression?” It’s a sentiment that pretty much sums up the frustration.

“Panthers @ Jets on Redzone is using the local radio broadcast for audio. This should be an option for every game. Gives the old school 70s feel…” another wrote, noting just how far FOX’s audio quality has fallen compared to even simple alternatives.
Others, meanwhile, were even less subtle in their critiques.
“We doing a Tin Can broadcast for the Panthers vs Jets game today Fox? Audio sounds like it’s straight from the 60s,” another chimed in, perfectly capturing the frustration and disbelief of viewers. The criticism isn’t just playful nostalgia. It underscores that poor production is directly affecting the fan experience during live games.
And it doesn’t stop there. “The audio of the Jets/Panthers game sounds like a radio broadcast from the 1940s…,” and “Why does the audio on the panthers jets game sound like it’s from the Great Depression,” were common refrains.
Between these comments, it’s clear fans are comparing FOX’s coverage to decades-old broadcasts. The signs are clear: The network’s technical issues are not only persistent. But it’s glaringly outdated in 2025 as well.
