It’s been a rough stretch for Brian Daboll and the New York Giants. For starters, they dropped their fourth game of the season—and the first with rookie Jaxson Dart running the offense—in a loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Now, things have taken another turn, with Dart dealing with hamstring trouble.

As per Dan Salomone of the Giants’ official site, Dart was listed as a limited participant on Monday’s practice report. The Giants didn’t actually hit the practice field that day, but they’re required to submit an estimated report ahead of Thursday’s Week 6 clash with the Philadelphia Eagles. The silver lining, though?
The Giants’ head coach isn’t exactly sounding the alarms. Instead, he tried to pump some optimism into the situation. “He’ll be OK,” Daboll said on Tuesday, October 7, per Underdog NFL. Dart has been dealing with hamstring issues since last week’s practice sessions.

The 22-year-old quarterback did suit up against the Saints, where he completed 26-of-40 passes for 202 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in Sunday’s 26-14 loss. But with the Eagles on deck, the big question still hangs in the air: Will the rookie actually get the start? That answer hasn’t been made official just yet.

Besides Dart, the Giants’ safeties, Dane Belton (shoulder), Jevon Holland (calf), Tyler Nubin (groin), cornerback Dru Phillips (hip), and running back Tyrone Tracy (shoulder) were also listed as limited.
On top of that, linebacker Swayze Bozeman (ankle), tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (back), linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring), and wideout Darius Slayton (hamstring) were all listed as players who wouldn’t have taken part if the Giants had actually practiced.

Meanwhile, right after a tough loss against the Saints, Daboll also addressed Jaxson Dart’s future with the team.
Brian Daboll isn’t giving up on Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart got plenty of love after guiding the Giants to their first win of the year in Week 4. But Week 5 was a completely different script. The rookie struggled, coughing up three of the team’s five turnovers on the day. However, when asked about Dart’s rough outing, Daboll made it clear he’s not about to give up on his young quarterback after just one bad game.
“I think they all respect Jaxson,” Daboll said, addressing Dart’s teammates. “You know, first talents one and how he’s a pretty humble guy. They see how he works. They know he’s a rookie. Again, there’s gonna be ups and downs, and there’s no young quarterback I’d rather have to work with than Jaxson.”
Dart’s first of three turnovers came in the third quarter, when he lost control of the ball while scrambling near midfield and coughed it up on his own. That slipped-handed momentum straight to New Orleans. And unfortunately for the Giants, that was only the beginning. Dart threw a couple of interceptions in the fourth quarter.

First, it came on a fourth-and-6, when Dart tried to make a big play, but eventually threw it to the Saints’ cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry. A few plays later, McKinstry again picked off Dart after the QB’s miscommunication with one of his receivers. Those couple of turnovers in a row handed the Saints more opportunities, eventually leading to a 26-14 win over New York.
But then again, it was just the second start for Jaxson Dart. While he’s going through hamstring issues ahead of the Eagles’ game, we’ll wait for the official statement from the team on the QB’s availability.
