Jaxson Dart’s reaction said it all. The rookie quarterback screamed in frustration after Cam Skattebo, the hero from the last time the New York Giants battled the Philadelphia Eagles, took a rough fall. The rookie running back went down with a serious ankle injury during the Week 8 clash between the NFC East rivals.

The moment looked rough. It all went down in the second quarter when the Giants were trailing 14-7 with 8:10 left. As Skattebo went to haul in a pass over the middle from Dart, Eagles Zack Baun wrapped him up just as the ball arrived and twisted him to the turf. In the process, Skattebo’s legs got tangled underneath him, and when he got up, his right leg seemed to be pointing the wrong way.
The Giants’ medical staff rushed in, and within moments, Skattebo was carted off the field with an air cast. There’s still no official word on the extent of his injury, but it doesn’t look good. According to Dr. Jesse Morse, the concern is that Skattebo may have suffered a dislocated right ankle. It’s similar to the injury Chris Godwin sustained in 2024.

Additionally, the injury analyst, Matthew Betz, reported that Skattebo might require surgery to repair his ankle. And in the process, he could miss the rest of the season.
“Absolutely HATE to see it,” the analyst shared his frustration on ‘X’. Right after that went down, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the unwanted news.

Per Garafolo, the Giants have officially ruled out Skattebo for the rest of the game with an ankle injury. And according to Schefter,
“Per the Giants: Cam Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.”
At the time of his injury, Skattebo had rushed for 12 yards on three carries. To this point in his rookie season, the RB has tallied 398 yards on 98 carries for five touchdowns. His best outing? It came against the Eagles as well.

The back rushed for 98 yards on 19 carries and scored three touchdowns on the ground. Fast forward to now, and he’s already ruled out of the rest of the game. As for his rookie season? It’s unlikely for him to suit up once again this year. But we’ll wait for the official confirmation from the Giants.
Who will back up Cam Skattebo after his ankle injury?
The Giants’ story through eight weeks into the season: They’ve lost their top wideout, Malik Nabers, for the rest of the season. Fast forward to now, and the way things have shaped up, it’s likely they’ll play the rest of the season without their top RB, Cam Skattebo, as well.
Which naturally raises a question: Who will back up Skattebo now? Besides Skattebo, the Giants have a couple of backs on the 53-man roster. We’re talking about Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary. On top of that, the New York team also has Dante Miller on the practice squad.
For now, Tracy Jr. has stepped up to lead the Giants’ rushing attack in Skattebo’s absence. While the team hasn’t made anything official yet, if Skattebo ends up sidelined long-term, expect the second-year running back to take charge of the ground game for Jaxson Dart and the offense for the rest of the season.
