Jaxson Dart looked efficient throughout the Week 6 Thursday Night Football against the reigning Super Bowl champs, the Philadelphia Eagles. But for a mere moment in the second half, the rookie took a big hit and went down on the field for a bit before finally getting back on his feet. The Giants had a 10-point lead at that time.

For the next play, Russell Wilson lined up under the center, but Dart was cleared to continue the game soon after being checked for a concussion. Fast forward to now, and the league has decided to initiate a review of the application of the concussion protocol involving the New York Giants‘ rookie quarterback. ESPN’s Adam Schefter just reported it via his ‘X’ handle.
“NFL said it initiated a review of the application of the concussion protocol involving New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart during last night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. That review will be conducted jointly with the NFLPA under the parties’ collective bargaining agreement,” Schefter wrote.

The NFL’s decision to review Dart’s concussion protocol jointly with the NFLPA seems understandable. Concussion reviews are a standard part of the NFL’s process, but actually triggering one is far from routine. But when a review is ultimately activated, it usually signals that something unusual or concerning happened. And keeping the Thursday Night game in mind, something unusual surely happened.

Right after Dart was taken into the blue tent, the Giants’ head coach, Brian Daboll, seemed agitated. The Prime Video broadcast showed Daboll poking his head inside the blue tent. He didn’t enter the blue tent, sure. But one thing was clear: the head coach wanted his rookie QB to get back on the gridiron as soon as possible, as he reportedly rushed the evaluation process.
There’s a reason a medical tent sits on the sideline. It’s not just for show; it’s a controlled environment where doctors can evaluate players without interference. Coaches aren’t allowed inside, and players typically shouldn’t enter either (though running back Cam Skattebo did step in while Dart was being examined).
So when the league decided to review how the concussion protocol was applied, it wasn’t surprising at all. However, Daboll apologized for his actions soon after.
Brian Daboll addressed the Jaxson Dart’s evaluation process
Jaxson Dart took the hit in the third quarter from the Eagles’ linebacker Patrick Johnson. He went down, took some time to get up, but eventually jogged off the field on his own for concussion evaluation. Brian Daboll wanted his rookie to get back in the game when the Giants had a good lead against Philly. However, the head coach eventually apologized to the team’s physicians for his actions.

“If you’ve ever been on an NFL sideline, there’s a lot of emotions,” he told the reporters. “There’s a lot of emotions. And I certainly am an emotional guy. I apologized directly to our team physician. I just wanted his a– out there if he was OK. But I wanted the process — like, we were getting ready to go for it on a potential fourth down. I would have burned a timeout if he could have came out there. So I was asking how long is it gonna take?”
For the time being, it’s still unclear whether Daboll would face the consequences of his actions or not. As for Dart? The rookie had another good outing as the Giants’ starting quarterback. Dart completed 17-of-25 passes for 195 yards and one touchdown while also rushing for 58 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown on the ground. He led the Giants to their second win of the season, 34-17.
