One thing about the Chiefs—they don’t get sentimental in the secondary. Since 2018, they’ve let go of nearly 20 defensive backs. Twenty! That’s a whole roster of guys gone while they still grabbed three rings. Back in 2019, they let go of Eric Berry, a five-time Pro Bowler and team leader, due to injury concerns and salary cap implications. And if we fast forward a few years, there was DeAndre Baker, a former first-round pick, after he suffered a severe leg injury.
You name it, and the head coach, Andy Reid, and general manager, Brett Veach, would’ve already parted their ways with their defensive backs. It’s not personal, it’s just the plan. A plan to build their roster, and right now, the Chiefs are rebuilding after the Super Bowl LIX loss. And it starts with releasing CB Robert Rochell.
On Tuesday, the Kansas City team released Rochell, who had just signed with the team last month. Sounds wild, but that’s the truth. Let’s call it what it is. Rochell, the former Rams fourth-round pick, was on a tour in the past few years. The 27-year-old CB bounced from Los Angeles to Green Bay and to finally KC on a sweet one-year $1.2 million deal. His stats? 48 games, 25 tackles, 1 pick.

But given the Chiefs are churning the bottom of their planned 90-man roster, Rochell is gone. Just like that. Even before he could make his debut for the Chiefs. So, who’s the replacement guy? The KC hasn’t announced it yet. But the way things are shaping up, it could be the former Carson-Newman Safety, Major Williams. Yeah, that Williams who went unselected in the 2025 NFL draft.
The Chiefs invited Williams to their first rookie minicamp, and it looks like the guy managed to impress the team. As per Matt Derrick, the Chiefs signed Williams after the rookie minicamp tryouts. Williams’ credentials? Well, the guy had 53 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and an interception for Carson-Newman in the last season. And oh, he also returned two punts for touchdowns during his time there.
That said, after addressing their biggest needs in the draft, Andy Reid and Co. have shifted their sights on the undrafted free agents. And looks like Patrick Mahomes‘ half-brother could join the team.

Are the Chiefs too ruthless with their roster changes, or is it just smart business?

Andy Reid and crew invited Patrick Mahomes’ brother for tryouts
Heading to the 2025 NFL draft, the Chiefs had a few positions to address. Say, left tackle. After all, Mahomes was sacked for a record six times in the Super Bowl. That said, the KC snagged Ohio State’s Josh Simmons in the first round. Folks out there believe that Simmons is one of the best offensive linemen, and the Chiefs just snagged him.
Then there were other players, including DT Omarr Norman-Lott and DE Ashton Gillotte, along with CB Nohl Williams. Their first four picks. But now that the NFL draft is officially in the books, it’s time for the Chiefs to select the UDFA. They’ve invited a few in the rookie mini camp, but one name stood out. It’s Graham Walker. Yup, that Walker. Mahomes’ half-brother. Son of Pat Mahomes Sr.

Walker remained undrafted for almost a couple of weeks in Green Bay. The guy spent his first three years at Brown University. His stats, you ask? He totaled 127 catches for 1,496 yards and 15 touchdowns. However, Walker transferred to Rice University in 2024 with an initial intention of playing a receiver. But he later transitioned to tight end.
The TE had an underwhelming season in 2024 as he caught 24 passes for 252 yards. His best season came in his freshman year at Brown, where he had 53 passes for 658 yards and six touchdowns. Sure, Walker had a connection entering the rookie minicamp, considering the guy’s half-brother to Mahomes, but it’d be interesting to see if he manages to impress the team. And if all goes well, he could be in the Chiefs’ tight end room with Travis Kelce.
