According to this theory, Lamar Jackson could’ve won the Super Bowl, if he played for the Kansas City Chiefs instead of Patrick Mahomes. However, legendary sports commentator Stephen A. Smith has just doused the flames of this theory!

Jackson’s ferocious rushing attacks and talents can not be denied by anyone. And the theory states that had he partnered with head coach Andy Reid, he would’ve attained the ultimate glory. Smith, on the other hand, destroys this notion with facts and logic!

The Jackson-Chiefs conundrum shoved aside

On ESPN’s ‘First Take’ show, former RB for the Buffalo Bulls Louis Riddick was in favor of this theory. The 54-year-old suggested the number of great quarterbacks who have thrived under HC Reid at the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chiefs, including Patrick Mahomes. However, Smith was having none of it and proceeded to dismantle the theory in his patented style.

His words put a stop to the followers of this theory on the show. And the stats speak for themselves when comparing Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, the two firebrand QBs of this generation.

Patrick Mahomes towers over Lamar Jackson

Mahomes and Jackson are pretty close in terms of their careers. Mahomes is 28-years-old and Jackson is 27. In terms of time spent in the NFL, only one season separates them. Both have claimed 2 NFL MVPs. But their stats are very different, even when not taking into account the postseason games.

Mahomes scored his career-high 50 TDs in 2018, while Jackson’s best is 36 in 2019. Over his entire career, Mahomes has an average of 2.28 TDs per game while Jackson has an average of 1.45 TDs per game. Mahomes hasn’t put up less than 4000 yards in a season since his rookie year, while Jackson has never crossed the 4000 yards boundary in his career.
