Jonathan Owens got his sixth win of the season against the Kansas City Chiefs. But did you know there was a time when he was employed by the team for very different reasons? In a recent interview, the Packers safety revisited his past from his days in college.

Owens discussed the hardships he went through and how he was grateful to the Chiefs before he started playing for their rivals. Revealing the details, he also noted how he remembers his roots and takes measures to keep the memories alive. The stories from the safety will certainly give you goosebumps.

Jonathan Owens: A Chiefs ’employee’ even before his NFL career

Talking to The Pivot Podcast’s Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder, Owens detailed the time of his life, that many do not know about. He talked about his job with the chiefs that helped him survive financial struggles. “I used to clean their rooms so I can stay up at campus for free over the summer. Cuz they didn’t pay for us to be up there,” he shared the story of him working as a cleaner.

“So, I work like campus hours… And they were at practice. Like that was awesome for us cuz you know this is NFL player… you know this is where we want to be.” Interestingly, the safety was rather happy about the experiences he had and insisted that this was what he wanted. “I couldn’t imagine, you know, myself being there. Fast forward, I play the Chiefs and you know, people from my school staff was with the Chiefs and it’s just full circle moment,” he reflected on how times have changed.

Times have indeed changed. He has gone from working for the Chiefs as a cleaner to becoming their rival and defeating them in the NFL.

Jonathan Owens didn’t let the emotion take over vs the Chiefs

Owens was so fond of the memories that he stated he used to write the stories down frequently. However, when the Chiefs faced the Packers two weeks ago, the safety didn’t show mercy like s true sportsman. He not only got the better of the side, but he also hit Patrick Mahomes with a late tackle that got a lot of people talking.

Following the Chiefs battle, however, the Packers have gone on a losing streak. But coming from the bottom and seeing his NFL dream come true, Owens has seen the worst. Compared to the financial struggles from his childhood, an NFL win is not a challenge for him. Don’t be surprised if he has an exceptionally great game during the coming weekend to break the streak!
