Was New York Jets‘ first-year head coach Aaron Glenn right to consider benching Justin Fields for Tyrod Taylor in Week 7? Well, we kind of got our answer to that in Week 8. The HC was probably planning to sit Fields against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. But with Taylor hurting his knee, that plan went out the window. The real twist, though?

Fields flipped the whole story by leading the Jets to their first win of the season. Which raises a question: After the Week 9 bye, will Glenn even dare to bench him again? Well, Glenn recently talked to the reporters, and he didn’t exactly commit to Fields starting against the Cleveland Browns after their bye week.

“I think you know what my answer’s going to be on that,” the first-year HC said, smiling and failing to hide his happiness after the Jets’ first win. “This is the bye week, and we’re going to focus on us. I have time to make that decision. So again, that’s one of the good things about the bye week. But seriously, this gives us a chance to really just hone in on the good, bad, and ugly and then try to get those things worked out because we know we have a ways to go.”

For the time being, Glenn chooses not to decide on who’ll line up under the center. But the way things are shaping up, Fields is likely to suit up against the Browns in Week 10 as well. After all, the quarterback was efficient on Sunday. He replied to Woody Johnson’s “if we could just complete a pass” statement with 21-of-32 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown pass.

But most importantly, he looked confident, focused, and didn’t commit any turnovers. However, as Glenn pointed out, he’d like to focus on the team in the bye week, and rightfully so. Sure, Fields held his own against the Bengals’ defense, no question about it. But next up are the Browns, and they’ve got the best defense in the league right now, led by Myles Garrett, who just sacked Drake Maye five times on Sunday.

Long story short: the quarterbacking has become a topic of debate in New York. And the HC decides to focus on the team rather than who’ll line up under the center.

The bye week is a good time for Aaron Glenn and the Jets

The Jets’ bye week couldn’t have come at a more interesting time, right after their first win of the season. And that naturally makes you wonder: was this the perfect timing for a break, or would Aaron Glenn have rather kept the momentum rolling after that win? The HC might have the answer.

“I’ll be honest, and I wish we were playing next week,” Glenn said. “But I do feel like this is a good time for us. Because now, I’ll focus again, as it’s always been, it’s been on us, some of the things that we just cleaned up. We’re going to go back and we’re going to self-scout towards coaches. And we’re going to talk to the players about things, about good, bad, ugly, and the solutions.”

Glenn’s squad was the only winless side heading into Week 8 of the season. Naturally, one could bet the pressure was high and the Jets’ faithful were rooting for the first win of the season. The journey, however, wasn’t as smooth as it sounds. The Jets were trailing by 14 points in the fourth quarter.

However, the team scored touchdowns on its final three drives, which resulted in a 15-point 39-38 comeback win over the Bengals. Fast forward to now, and Glenn is hoping to focus on improving things in the bye week and focus on the good, bad, and ugly ahead of their Week 10 clash against the Browns.
