Justin Fields appeared to have sidestepped the Jets‘ quarterback curse almost a couple of months back, no denying that. But the infamous curse has returned as Fields has been sidelined with a concussion, resulting in Tyrod Taylor stepping up in his absence. But did that make any difference? Certainly not. The Jets have dropped their first 3.

Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers marked their third loss of the season. And right at the center of it? It’s the pick six by the Bucs’ corner Jamel Dean. The CB intercepted Taylor and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown just a few moments before the first half. Right after that went down and the Jets suffered a 29-27 loss, Taylor addressed the pick six in front of the media. “Moved the pocket,” he said when asked about what happened on that pick-six.
“Probably was a little late on that on that throw. Hindsight, looking back had to just get down. Anytime you move in a pocket on a route that’s that deep down the field, it’s probably best to get to the checkdown, and Dean made a great play, and obviously, turnovers hurt you in this league. But we were able to bounce back from it and we’ll learn from it and we’ll be better from it moving forward.”

New York was getting close to Tampa Bay late in the first half. And if not for a lost fumble and an interception, Taylor and the Jets could be having a different conversation right about now. For starters, the quarterback got sacked by safety Antoine Winfield and fumbled the ball, but defensive tackle Vita Vea scooped it up, giving the Bucs a prime field-goal position.

With just 45 seconds remaining in the half, Taylor threw an interception, and Jamel Dean made him pay as the Bucs walked out with their third straight win of the season. The Jets indeed came back briefly in the game, thanks to Will McDonald IV, who blocked Chase McLaughlin’s 43-yard field goal attempt and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

But at the end of the day, McLaughlin got his redemption, nailing a 36-yard field goal in the final moments to hand the Jets their third straight loss.

Aaron Glenn addressed the worst news after the game
It’s the plethora of injuries lining up in New York. Sauce Gardner is down, Quincy Williams is down, and Marcelino McCrary-Ball has also been dealing with injury complications. Following a 29-27 loss to the Bucs, Aaron Glenn addressed a couple of injuries ahead of their next matchup. “On the injury front, two guys of note,” Glenn noted.
What’s your perspective on:
Is the Jets' quarterback curse real, or just an excuse for their ongoing failures?
Have an interesting take?
“Quincy (Williams) had a shoulder. I see exactly how he’s going to be when we get back. And Marcelino (McCrary-Ball), hamstring. I think he’ll be just fine. When it comes to the game, man, these guys, I mean, they fought their a– off. Love every one of those guys for how they came out in the second half.” The Jets lost Williams to a shoulder injury just before the half.

Later, the team announced that Williams had been ruled out for the rest of the game after the linebacker tallied four tackles and a half-sack before the injury. Meanwhile, McCrary Ball has been dealing with hamstring complications, as confirmed by Rich Camini of ESPN.com sports. Before the injury struck, the LB finished with five tackles (one solo) in the game.
Their return timeline at the moment? It’s still not clear yet. But we’ll see whether these two participate in this week’s practice or not. That said, following Justin Fields’ injury, the Jets are now dealing with a few injuries on the defensive side, too.
