Aaron Rodgers left the Packers to join the Jets last summer, becoming the greatest QB in the franchise’s history. But taking over from the 4x NFL MVP, is Jordan Love following the legend’s footsteps with the same determination? The question arises because Love has done something not even franchise great like Rodgers or Brett Favre did during their times.

The Packers’ QB has set the franchise TD record after his first 15 starts for the franchise, overtaking the former two. Additionally, his records after his first 12 starts for the team are almost identical to Rodgers, who started for the team first time in 2008, after serving 3 years as a backup for Favre. So, will Love become one of the best QBs the Packers ever had?

Favre joined the Packers in 1992 and started every single game for the franchise till 2007 since his 1st season. In his first 15 games, Favre threw for 20 touchdowns. Taking the charge from him, Rodgers had his first start in 2008 and remained the QB1 till 2022. In his first 13 games, A-Rod better Favre’s record with 25 touchdowns.

But history repeated itself as Love replaced Rodgers after he left for the Jets. With 26 touchdowns in 15 games, Love now has the best starting season out of any Packers’ QB in history.

Love also has a very identical stat with Rodgers after his first 12 games, with the Super Bowl XLV champion being marginally better than the current Packers’ QB in completion percentage and QB rating. But Jordan Love needs to do more than just match Rodgers’ numbers to establish himself as a Packers great.

Jordan Love vs Aaron Rodgers vs Brett Favre: The bigger context

After his first 12 starts, the 4x NFL MVP had 2897 yards for 20 passing touchdowns, with 10 interceptions, a 64% completion rate, a QB rating of 91.2, and a 5-7 record. In comparison, Love has thrown for 2879 yards for 20 touchdowns, with 11 interceptions, a 60% completion rate, a QB rating of 86.84, and a 5-7 record in the same number of games. While that sounds impressive, Love has a long way to go to match the greats.

Both Rodgers and Favre won 3 NFL MVPs playing for the side. Both also have one Super Bowl to their name. While Favre holds the franchise record for most wins and yards by a QB with 161-94 and 61,655 respectively, Rodgers has the best win ratio and touchdown record at 65.4% and 726 touchdowns, respectively. Compared to these behemoths, Jordan Love is just at the beginning of his NFL career.

While it’s still too early to compare Love to these legends, the 25-year-old is on his way to becoming a Packers great following a record-breaking start. After all, morning shows the day.

My story of becoming an NFL writer is as interesting as my story of becoming an MMA practitioner. Coming from such a sport where athletes look to knock the brain cells off each other for a living, I liked the aggression that American Football had to offer. Before I even realized it, I religiously started following American football, picking up the most challenging in-depth write-ups.
