The Super Bowl victory parade of the Kansas City Chiefs turned into a harrowing afternoon after gunshots left one dead and 21 injured in a shooting near the city’s Union Station. Confirming the incident, authorities in Kansas City, Missouri, announced the arrest of three individuals. After Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce expressed his commiserations, his ex-Kayla Nicole also conveyed her prayers to the Kansas City community amidst the chaos.

The shooting abruptly turned the celebratory atmosphere into one of devastation and sorrow, casting a shadow over the community’s joy. In a recent post on her X account, Kayla Nicole expressed her condolences to those affected by the tragic shooting at the Chiefs’ victory parade. She shared a message of support, saying, “Sending my love and prayers to the KC community and all those affected by the senseless shooting today.”

With sincerity, she also conveyed her empathy, adding, “Y’all are forever in my heart. ♥️” Kayla advocated for a shift toward a safer and more compassionate society in the face of tragedy. She further added, “I hope we never ever become desensitized by the overwhelming amount of gun violence in this country. Enough is enough.” Earlier Travis Kelce was also “heartbroken” over the incident.

He tweeted, “I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today. My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me.” Kelce’s teammate and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes also tweeted, “Praying for Kansas City.” 

The incident is Kansas City’s second mass shooting in as many months and the 25th in the metro over the preceding five years.

Kansas City Chiefs posted an update on X confirming that Kelce and his teammates are all safe. They tweeted, “At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff, and their families are safe and accounted for.” Meanwhile, the shooting left many wounded including children.

According to witnesses, the Union Station gunfire broke out just before 2 p.m., around the conclusion of the Chiefs’ victory rally. The incident caused widespread panic. Meanwhile, police Chief Stacey Graves confirmed three detentions in connection with the shooting, with investigations ongoing. Fire Department Chief Ross Grundyson reported one fatality and at least 22 individuals struck by gunfire.

Nine children aged six to 15 with gunshot wounds are being treated at Children’s Mercy Hospital, chief nursing officer Stephanie Meyer said.
