Las Vegas Raiders‘ last attempt to trade away Maxx Crosby did not go their way after he failed a physical at the last minute. Months later, trade talks are rejuvenated. This time, they have to do with Ashton Jeanty’s injury.

“With Jeanty hurt, the Raiders might as well trade maxx crosby to the dallas cowboys now and work on getting Jeremiah Smith at the top of the draft,” wrote Cowboys writer Clarence Hill Jr. on X on August 23.
During the offseason, the Cowboys had their sights set on Crosby. Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Cowboys made a strong offer for Crosby, including the No. 12 overall pick in 2026 and a 2027 second-round pick. It was also their third offer to the Raiders, which already shows how much Dallas wanted Crosby. Baltimore, however, won the bidding war by offering two first-round picks to the Raiders. Now that the Ravens are no longer in the picture, the trade talks can reopen with the Cowboys.
With the Ravens backing out, Crosby remains Las Vegas’ highest-paid player. His $35.79 million cap charge makes up nearly 12% of the $301.2 million maximum cap.
That will make it easier for the Raiders to perhaps set their sights on one of the best players in the 2027 draft class: Star Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.
Smith could be deployed as a running back for the Raiders in Ashton Jeanty’s absence, who went down with an injury scary enough for the team to take a knee and send a prayer. According to reports, it looks like the running back has sprained his ankle. The Raiders might look at other proper RB prospects as replacements too, but if Klint Kubiak can wave his magic on Smith and have him take snaps at running back, they could be in for a potent offense.
Kubiak has opened up about struggles at wide receiver and was disappointed in them for their showing against the Houston defense. Moreover, someone like Fernando Mendoza needs a solid WR1, for which Jeremiah Smith can always be a great candidate. It’ll be a win-win for the Las Vegas Raiders, especially because Kubiak formerly mentored an absolute weapon in Jaxon Smith-Njigba at Seattle.
“If this truly is a precursor to how their actual season will go, it should be Jeremiah Smith they look to draft already in 2027,” Marissa Myers wrote for TWSN.
Meanwhile, Dallas already retooled their pass rush by signing Rashan Gary. But he is no Maxx Crosby, who would serve as the ideal Micah Parsons replacement. All eyes will be on the trade deadline, the Tuesday after Week 9, November 10. Crosby’s days of wearing the silver and black might be coming to an end by then.
