Buckle up, Cowboys Nation, because things just got real. Tinesha Mahomes, the aunt of Chiefs‘ superstar Patrick Mahomes, has a no-nonsense message for Dak Prescott: it’s time to “man up” and take control of his situation in Dallas. “We need somebody that’s gonna go in there and eat with their fingers and not with knives and forks,” she bluntly stated, urging Prescott to ditch niceties for an aggressive leadership approach.

Prescott’s contract talks with Jerry Jones have been uncertain, leaving fans puzzled. “Not necessarily, obviously still conversations…Communication has been back and forth,” Prescott offered little clarity to reporters.

With Jones playing coy about Prescott’s future, Mahomes’ aunt minced no words on the 2 Gems and a Mic Sports Podcast about the assertiveness the team needs from its QB1. “I think what the Cowboy fans need and what we want is that dog in him.”

Mahomes’ straight-shooting advice arrives as whispers of Prescott’s potential exit grow with rookie QB Trey Lance’s arrival. “We’ve got to have some of these guys be special…but this is this way you got to roll this thing,” Jones hinted at a future sans Prescott during the post-draft press conference. As Tinesha Mahomes warned, “It’s hard to play for Jerry…because Jerry likes to be controlled.”

In a scathing assessment, Mahomes’ aunt said, “It scares me…there was a moment [against Green Bay]…that he looked like he had some fear in his eyes.” Her words echo fans yearning for Prescott to shed intimidation and unleash an alpha mentality to lead like iconic Cowboys before, demanding lucrative respect after 29,459 yards and 202 TDs. While Prescott’s saga rages, Ezekiel Elliott’s return raises questions.

Is Ezekiel Elliott’s return a long-term strategy for Dak Prescott?

Elliott’s comeback evokes nostalgia of his 1,631-yard 2016 rookie year. Yet, his declining production, including 876 yards and 12 TDs in 2022, raises eyebrows. As Dave Helman said on SPEAK, “Last year, 49 backs got the ball 100+ times…Zeke ranked tied for 45 in 10+-yard carries. He had eight.”

Some, like Emmanuel Acho, wonder if a $3 million deal is a temporary solution given Jones’ desire to build a younger core – an aggressive move lacking, per Tinesha Mahomes’ advice to Prescott. However, for Jones, Elliott’s system familiarity and locker room leadership could prove invaluable amid uncertainty over Prescott’s future and integrating talents like Lance. “I saw him play…with New England. I thought he played well enough to be a starter,” Jones reasoned to reporters. “I can’t imagine taking the field without him.” said Prescott about Elliott earlier in 2023.

But Elliott’s return guarantees no panacea. Critics point to his 2023 stats of 642 yards and 3 TDs with the Patriots, doubting his lead-back capability. As Tinesha Mahomes bluntly put it, the Cowboys need players who’ll “go all out” – is Elliott still capable?

Only time will tell if Elliott’s homecoming is a stopgap or a calculated long-term move. But one thing’s certain: with Prescott’s uncertain future and the Cowboys’ desire to “roll off” aging stars, every piece matters. Tinesha Mahomes’ words should give Prescott the kick he needs to prove his mega-contract worth.
