Mahomes let fans in on the news by resharing cinematographer Preston’s Instagram post unveiling the nominations. “Quarterback” got a prestigious Outstanding Documentary Series nod as well as an Outstanding Audio/Sound Post-Produced selection. Not too shabby for Showtime’s first foray into the prestige TV world.

The 8-episode series offers an unprecedented look into Mahomes’s as well as Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota’s lives both on and off the gridiron during the 2022–23 season. From fiery pregame rituals to intimate family moments, no angle of the QB’s existence was off-limits. Critics raved about the raw, cinematic footage and deeply personal storytelling.

Fans were treated to behind-the-scenes glimpses like Patrick Mahomes admitting, “I’m not much of a scrambler“ after an incredible clutch run. Or his wife, Brittany, finding calm before their new baby’s birth as playoff pressure mounted. It was Keeping Up with the Mahomeses meets Friday Night Lights realness.

But “Quarterback” was just the opening salvo in what became an Emmy onslaught for the NFL’s top promotional hype machine.

When the dust settled on nominations morning, the National Football League racked up a staggering 27 additional Emmy nods across its media universe. The league’s top series, “NFL 360,” led the way with a whopping 11 nominations by itself.

Powerhouse franchises like the Jets’ “Hard Knocks” and documentaries like “Kelce” also represented, proving the NFL is truly multi-talented in cranking out compelling content from all angles. From outstanding editing to cinematography to writing, no category was left untouched.

Even random fun projects like “Toy Story Funday Football” and youth flag football promotions earned their deserved flowers from Emmy voters. When it comes to crafting quality sports entertainment, the NFL is getting it done at an elite level on and off the field.

So as Patrick Mahomes gears up for yet another Super Bowl run, he can take solace in knowing his skills are being acknowledged in multiple arenas now.
