That New England Patriots win over the Falcons was sort of intense. But even with the 24-23 victory, giving the team their sixth straight win, rookie QB Drake Maye wasn’t exactly celebrating, as he held himself responsible for week 9’s turnover mistake, which allowed the Atlanta Falcons to almost catch up. But Stefon Diggs, signed by the Patriots as their wide receiver on a three-year, $69 million contract, publicly backed rookie QB Drake Maye. As per Andrew Callahan, a reputed columnist of the Patriots, wrote what Diggs had to say in support of Maye.

“I’m riding with Drake Maye. Things aren’t going to be perfect. I tell y’all all the time, it’s hard as s–t to play quarterback.”

The turnover mistake that Maye is owning up to is from late in the first half, a fumble after being hit by Jalon Walker that the Falcons recovered for a touchdown. Maye was trying to run for extra yards but admitted he should’ve just taken the sack. He straight-up called it a “bad habit”

“I’ve got in a bad habit of trying to break tackles on guys I don’t have a great chance of breaking a tackle on.”

While the turnover was a costly blunder, it shouldn’t overshadow Maye’s overall game. He still had a very solid outing, completing 19 of 29 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns. That performance gave him a 102.5 passer rating and extended his impressive streak to eight straight games with at least 200 passing yards and a passer rating of 100 or better.

Drake Maye’s recent game has broken Patrick Mahomes’ previous record

Drake Maye isn’t just winning games for the New England Patriots; he’s officially rewriting the history books. In his latest game, because of Maye’s efforts along with other players, Patriots secured another victory, and Maye ended up breaking an impressive benchmark previously held by Patrick Mahomes.

Maye’s phenomenal performance marked his eighth consecutive game with at least 200 passing yards and a passer rating of 100 or higher. Maye breaks the record for the highest streak made by any quarterback under the age of 24. This position was previously held by Patrick Mahomes in 2018 when he became the MVP at just 23 years of age. NFL+ too put the new history on their social media handle X:

“Drake Maye passes Patrick Mahomes for the longest streak of games with 200+ pass yards and a 100+ passer rating by a player under the age of 24 all-time (8).”

Through just nine weeks this season, Maye’s numbers speak volumes: 2,285 yards, 17 touchdowns, and a mere four interceptions. He’s swiftly proving he belongs among the NFL’s elite young talents.

With this much momentum and history now behind him, Drake Maye’s incredible rise is swiftly turning into the must-watch narrative across the entire league. And if he remains consistent, then it will not be difficult for Maye to emerge as a threat to Patrick Mahomes. Or perhaps be the best bargains for the best QBs the NFL league shall possess.
