49ersChristian McCaffrey has dominated the league in rushing stats since week 1. His MVP-worthy performances have put many names under the radar, one being the RamsKyren Williams. The RB deserves the Rams’ MVP on his own, for being their most productive player this season.

Williams is only the second RB this season to break the 1000-yard mark after McCaffrey. In doing so, he has also touched a feat that no Rams’ RB has done in the past 4 years since Todd Gurley. But can his performances push the Rams to a much-deserved playoff spot?

Todd Gurley was arguably at the peak of his powers in 2018. He rushed for 1251 yards with a league-leading 17 touchdowns in the season. But due to multiple injuries and beat-ups from the tackles he had to go through, Gurley called it an end in his short 6-year NFL career in 2022. However, it looks like the Rams have found their next Todd Gurley in Williams, who became the only second player from the franchise to cross the 1000-yard mark since Gurley.

Williams achieved this feat with a 104-yard game against the Saints on Tuesday. He also boasts 9 touchdowns in the season. But can he touch, or even cross Gurley’s numbers in 2023? He probably can, but the Rams must make their way through the playoffs to let that happen.

The Rams are second in the NFC West. According to the New York Times’ prediction computer, they have a 72% of making the playoffs this year. And given their recent run in the league, especially since the nerve-racking Ravens‘ game, the prediction does not seem wild. Currently 8-7, a 10-7 record after the last 2 games should propel them into the playoffs.

And the Super Bowl LVI champions might get extra confidence thinking about their upcoming opponents’ Giants. The Giants are pretty much out of the season, and without the service of an elite quarterback, their single loss looks to be turning into a streak, as the Eagles and Rams line up next for them.

Williams might not clinch the rushing record this season from McCaffrey, but he is in a better position to break Gurley’s rushing record. This gets even more impressive given he has already missed 4 games in the season.

My story of becoming an NFL writer is as interesting as my story of becoming an MMA practitioner. Coming from such a sport where athletes look to knock the brain cells off each other for a living, I liked the aggression that American Football had to offer. Before I even realized it, I religiously started following American football, picking up the most challenging in-depth write-ups.
