It was a double treat for Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams last week. Not only did the veteran QB notch his third straight win of the season with a 34-10 rout of the New Orleans Saints at SoFi Stadium, but the team also joined in celebrating the Dodgers’ World Series triumph over the Blue Jays in a thrilling seven-game showdown. But amid all the celebration, one moment stole the spotlight, and had everyone, including Stafford, his wife Kelly, and reporters, cracking up.

During a third-quarter cutback, Stafford tried to throw a block on the Saints’ Alontae Taylor. Moments later, the Rams’ Instagram shared a clip where a reporter jokingly asked if he’d been “prepping” for that unexpected move. The 37-year-old then responded, which had everyone laughing.
“Getting ready? I threw the pads in there a little bit. I ran by Shawn Smith, the ref. After that, I was like, ‘I’m too old for this s***.’ Sorry. He was like, ‘Smart decision.’ I was like, ‘Man, I kind of took a lick there. But I don’t know what I was doing. I was just playing.” And you can bet his wife, Kelly, couldn’t stop laughing. Kelly reshared the post in his IG story.

It’s safe to say that Stafford was trying to level a defender, besides putting up another strong performance from under the center. His reasoning, however, was pretty simple. The quarterback tried to help out by blocking the Saints’ cornerback so his running back, Blake Corum (58 yards on 13 carries), could gain more yards.
Stafford ran down the field and tried to get in Taylor’s way, but his block barely slowed Taylor down, only for a split second, before New Orleans tackled the RB for a short gain. And when he isn’t leveling the defender? Let’s just say Matthew Stafford stayed busy in putting up yet another strong outing for the Rams.
Matthew Stafford clinched his third straight win of the season
It’s safe to say that Matthew Stafford kicked things off in Week 9 where he left off. Heading into the Week 9 matchup against the Saints, Stafford had just completed 21-of-33 for 182 yards and five touchdowns in a 35-7 Week 8 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fast forward to Sunday, and he walked out of SoFi Stadium with yet another MVP-calibre performance. The 37-year-old veteran went 24-of-32 for 281 yards and four touchdowns (threw at least four touchdowns for the 19th time in his career), while connecting efficiently with his top targets.
The Rams tallied 438 total yards, thanks to a strong passing game that totaled 267 yards and a rushing attack that gained 171 more on the ground. Puka Nacua was efficient as the wide receiver caught 7 receptions and returned them for 95 yards and one touchdown in his return from an ankle injury. The run game? It clicked, too.
Credit goes to Kyren Williams, who racked up 114 yards on 25 carries and added a touchdown for good measure. The defense held its ground as well, giving up just 224 total yards and 10 points. And that’s pretty much been the story for the Rams lately. Over their last three games, their opponents have managed only 20 points combined.
That said, the Rams head into Week 10 as favorites against the San Francisco 49ers. Now the real question is: Can Matthew Stafford and Co. get their revenge for that earlier loss to the Niners?
