Essentials Inside The Story
- Madison Atiabi initially filed for a temporary restraining order against Puca Nacua
- The court filing alleges that Nacua used antisemitic slurs against her
- Atiabi's lawsuit claims gender violence, assault, battery, and negligence
Puka Nacua’s transformation from a player with a squeaky-clean resume to a controversial wide receiver has put the Los Angeles Rams in a tough spot. Following recent allegations and a request for a temporary restraining order by a California woman, there is a growing concern in the fan base about his actions. However, the Rams’ front office and head coach shared a different opinion when asked about their #1 WR’s recent allegations.
“I trust this kid’s heart. Love him. Put your arm around him, want to continue to help him grow. And really get all the appropriate facts before I rush to judgment,” shared Adam Grosbard on his X account.
The HC further continued, “But I will say, knowing this guy for three years, is I do trust his heart. I trust the human being. And I want to be able to put my arm around him.”
Sean McVay said the Rams have known about the Puka Nacua allegations since NYE and team is still gathering details

McVay revealed that the organization isn’t blindsided and was aware of the incident since New Year’s Eve. While the team continues to investigate, the HC further clarified that he isn’t turning his back on the young receiver.
“Puka would be the first to tell you, he and I have a close relationship. We communicate clear, open, and honest.” McVay further added, “This is an opportunity for him to learn and grow, and we are hopeful that he’s a Ram for a really long time.”
The wide receiver recently found himself at the center of a legal dispute after a California woman, Madison Atiabi, filed for a temporary restraining order against the player. She alleged that Nacua bit her during a New Year’s Eve night out in Los Angeles on Dec 31, 2025, and used antisemitic slurs.
Though Nuka’s attorney, Levi McCathern, has dismissed the slurs, but acknowledged that the 24-year-old receiver bit Atiabi. However, Atiabi’s request for a temporary restraining order was denied by a judge, pending an April 14 hearing.
According to the court filings, she “had no prior acquaintance with (Nacua) and had not been informed he would be present.” In her request, Atiabi highlighted that the NYE dinner hosted by Nacua (and some other Rams players) was her first encounter with the WR.
Atiabi’s filing also mentions that she “was immediately offended and emotionally distressed hearing those words,” following Nuca’s antisemitic remarks. Further stating that the WR sat between Atiabi and her girlfriend “without invitation or consent,” when they were seated in a sprinter van to head over to their next destination.
However, on Friday, it was reported that Atiabi is pulling her request for the restraining order, while her attorney, Joseph Kar, said that he and his client have opted to drop the matter without prejudice. She will now reportedly focus on the follow-up lawsuit they filed against Nacua on Wednesday.
“A voluntary withdrawal allows for the merits of the civil matter to be thoroughly investigated and tried to a jury,” Kar said. “Civil harassment petitions are not normally ever tried before any jury while the civil lawsuit will be proceeding on all counts to a jury.”
Atiabi’s lawsuit claims that she is suing the WR for gender violence, assault and battery, and negligence; and is asking for “general and compensatory damages in an amount to be proven at trial.”
But Nacua’s attorney believes that Atiabi decided to withdraw the request “because it was completely meritless — just like the lawsuit.” He also added that Atiabi and her attorney, “continue to make up stories trying to turn this minor episode into big dollars. In the end, they are going to be paying Puka and not the other way around.”
The legal system will eventually provide the final word on these allegations, and if the claims are proven true, the Rams may have a much harder decision to make. But for now, the team’s leadership is choosing to treat Nacua as a “cornerstone” in progress, both as a player and a man.
Puka Nacua and his pending contract discussion with the Rams
The Los Angeles Rams are in a tough spot with their star receiver, Puka Nacua. On the field, the guy is a total gem, but lately, his off-field issues are making the team hesitate on a massive new contract.
With the 2026 season approaching, he is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is scheduled to earn a $5.77 million base salary. With 16 games, he led the NFL with 129 receptions. His catches also led to a league-leading 80 first downs, and he was No. 1 with 107.2 receiving yards per game, finishing with 1,715 yards with 10 TDs.
Overall, in his first three seasons, in just 44 games, he caught 313 passes for 4,191 yards with 19 touchdowns.
Looking at Nakua’s production, it didn’t seem hard to figure out that the Rams would pay him. Especially since Seattle just gave Jaxon Smith-Njigba a record-breaking $168.6 million deal. However, the Rams are in no rush to hand over the bag just yet.
The Rams front office is reportedly looking to develop a future quarterback, with a high interest in LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier. This search for a future quarterback also raises questions about current players on the roster.
“At this point, when there hasn’t been a decision, it feels less likely than likely, but I don’t want to rule that out,” McVay said of Garoppolo’s possible return for a third season with the Rams.
Ultimately, the team remains supportive of Puka Nacua while considering what is good for the team and its future. In the end, it all comes down to the bigger plan aiming at stability for the long haul.
