Matthew Stafford has lost three times in the last 11 games that he started, and all three losses occurred against the Eagles. Sunday’s Week 3 matchup marked that third loss, thanks to a couple of field goals blocked by the Eagles in the fourth quarter. The 33–26 defeat had its share of mistakes, though nothing too catastrophic.

Head coach Sean McVay made it clear he’ll address those issues, but he’s not rushing anything for now. The HC’s just making sure they get it right the next time. “(We) had some opportunities,” he said. “You know what, we came out here to win the game. It didn’t go down like that force and I’m looking forward to respond accordingly and that’s exactly what you guys gonna see… We’ll go back and look at the tape.”

The Rams dominated the reigning Super Bowl champions for most of the game, but not when it mattered most. Sean McVay talked about opportunities after the game, and of course, the Rams definitely let theirs slip. The Eagles were down 26-9 in the third quarter, but by midway through the fourth, the Rams’ lead had shrunk to 26-21. That’s when kicker Joshua Karty lined up for a 36-yard field goal, only for Jalen Carter to come crashing through with a block.

A few minutes later, Karty got another shot, this time from 44 yards. But lightning struck twice. Jordan Davis got the block, scooped it up, and rumbled 66 yards the other way for a touchdown. “If I tried to run away,” Davis said after the game. “I was going to get moshed.”

Davis ran at 18.59 mph while returning the field goal attempts 66 yards for a TD. It’s the fastest by a player over 330 pounds since at least 2017, per Next Gen Stats. “I don’t know what mph I hit, but I’m pretty sure it was something crazy,” he added. Just like that, the game flipped. Final score: 33-26, Eagles. McVay and the Rams had their chances. They just couldn’t cash in.

Matthew Stafford can learn from the week 3 loss

19 points. That’s what the Rams gave away to the Eagles in a 33-26 loss. The Rams had every chance to secure their third win of the season, but at the end of the day, it’s Jalen Hurts and the Eagles who had the last laugh. Matthew Stafford and the Rams, on the other hand, had just left with so many plays to learn ahead of their Week 4 game.

Learn from it,” Stafford said after the game, addressing what the Rams can do now. “There’s so many other plays in this game that we can learn from and be better. First and foremost, myself. Disappointed with how I threw it in some instances today. Just go back to it, continue to work hard and know that what you’re doing and the process that we’re doing is the right thing and find ways to win games.”

Stafford finished the game with 19-of-33 for 196 yards while scoring a couple of touchdowns and an interception. Despite the loss, Stafford remains optimistic about how they’ll respond as the quarterback added, “I’ve got no questions or no concerns about how we’ll respond.” The flight way back home will be tough for the Rams. But as they welcome the Colts (3-0), we can expect Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford to learn, given that it’s going to be a tough matchup.
