The Las Vegas Raiders have parted ways with head coach Josh McDaniels and GM David Ziegler on Tuesday. The franchise’s official website has confirmed this staggering announcement. As a matter of fact, the news came just days after the team incurred its fifth loss of the season on Sunday, against the Lions.
While many saw it coming in the past few weekends, especially after repetitive disappointments in the season, the fact that two major managerial changes have occurred in such a short period is still unwavering. It was probably the mighty Lions that proved to be the final nail in the coffin for McDaniels. However, the decision was not random. It was influenced by three major reasons that can be highlighted by their disheartening 2023 season.

Firstly, the fans wanted the head coach to receive the ultimatum for a long time. Ever since the season’s third consecutive loss against the Chargers, it looked more possible than probable that the fans would demand the decision to happen, sooner or later. Well! The recent loss against the Lions fanned this flame even more.

Secondly, the biggest of them all, one certainly wouldn’t need to listen to the fans to realize the Raiders were going from bad to worse. They lost more than they won, and every time they won they balanced it back with a (or two) loss.

Another critical situation that McDaniels has found himself surrounded with has been the mismanagement of the team. From his blank play calls to his subpar choice of starting lineups, the Raiders never really looked comfortable enough to lead a game from the start. However, it is salient to note that owner Mark Davis said, “I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best,” which reflected how they have been a central part of the team.
