Last year, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gave Shedeur Sanders his stamp of approval. And if the rumors are to be believed, Shedeur along with his father and son could be headed back to Dallas next season. The Cowboys were one of the teams Deion Sanders said he would want his sons to play for and Jerry Jones could make it a reality, as he looks to win a first championship since 1996.

Deion Sanders has been linked with the storied franchise in the recent past as well. After Dallas lost to the Packers in the NFC Wildcard round in January, Robert Griffin III endorsed Coach Prime to replace Mike McCarthy. Addressing the news, Sanders had said, “The only scenario you could come up with right now is to throw my kids in. That’s the only thing you can do.” And it looks like Jerry Jones heard what Sanders wants and is ready to go all in.

NFL insider Mark Knudson has pointed out, “He’s charting the course. Clearing the runway. Plowing the road,” for Sanders to bring his unique brand to America’s team. “Jerry Jones is setting everything up to make Deion Sanders his head coach at the conclusion of the upcoming football season.”

If Coach Prime goes to the Cowboys, his sons Shedeur Sanders, who is to enter the NFL draft in 2025, and Shilo Sanders, who is the defensive back, will probably accompany him. Other than hoping that they trio will spark a change in the Cowboys’ fortune on the field, there is another reason why Jones might be interested in making this move.

Welcoming the outspoken “Coach Prime” to Dallas would lead to attention and spotlight, which can translate into money. “If Deion proved one thing last season, it’s that he knows how to bring attention, regardless of what happens on the field,” notes Knudson. Despite a not so impressive 4-8 record last season, Buffs were in the news frequently, owing to the grandeur of the Sanders family.

Jones admires Deion and his sons and his interest in signing the brothers is nothing new. In November 2023, the Sanders clan attended the Cowboys vs Seattle clash and after the Cowboys’ win, Jerry Jones shared a conversation with the family. Posing with Shedeur, he said that QB “very easily could be the top pick in the draft.” At NFL Honors in February, Jones said that he “would be happy” if the brothers returned to Dallas.

Both the Sanders brothers grew up in Dallas, as their father tore up the field for the Cowboys in the mid to late 90s. Deion was also the part of the last championship winning Cowboys team in 1996. Jones will hope he can replicate the magic.

While addressing the future of his sons in April, Sanders said he would prefer them to end up at one of the six among Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, the Washington Commanders, the Baltimore Ravens, the Atlanta Falcons or the Philadelphia Eagles. Though he later said his words were twisted. But will he follow them to the NFL?

In April, Coach Prime told reporters that he has work to do at Colorado and won’t be moving to the pro league with his sons. Thus, it won’t be easy to tempt him from Boulder. But if anybody could do it, it is Jones.

Handing the HC role to Sanders might not be that surprising despite his relative inexperience in coaching at the highest level. So far, Mike McCarthy has stayed in his role, despite the dismal end to the season. If the next season starts poorly, Jones may reconsider his position. For a franchise like the Cowboys not being in the headlines for good reasons on and off the field doesn’t sit well, and that is what Jones will hope to change with Sanders’s appointment.

Still, we will have to await for the official word. Could “Prime Time” be the final piece that will have Cowboys fans partying like it’s 1996? What has Jones got on his mind?

Jerry Jones is “all in” for the next season

The Sanders takeover scenario remains a possibility, but Jerry Jones is making it clear – his current game plan is, “We will be all-in.” The 80-year-old owner bluntly stated this, at this year’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. For a franchise desperate to hoist that Lombardi Trophy one more time, this could be the Cowboys’ drive for glory.

Jones has also admitted, “we are over the cap, you know we can’t stay like this.” The Cowboys are projected to create around $25 million in much-needed cap space by restructuring deals for star players like offensive lineman Zack Martin and pass rushers DeMarcus Lawrence and Trevon Diggs. Veteran wideout Michael Gallup could also get cut to free up $9.5 million more. This also means that signing Deion, Shedeur and Shilo won’t be as easy as it may sound.

So while having Deion Sanders on the sidelines and his son Shedeur under center would be great for attention, it appears America’s Team has more pressing priorities. But again, this is Jerry Jones we’re talking about.

If Prescott’s playoff yips continue, don’t be surprised if Dallas Cowboys receives the “Prime Time” treatment in a hurry. You never know, but for now, it’s Super Bowl or bust. With Jones demanding his star-studded roster to “deliver long-awaited championship glory this season, by any means necessary,” the next few months could get interesting.
