They kinda looked a little sluggish…nobody was really bouncing. Right then and there we all sat there and were like ‘They don’t want to play today,'” said Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. after the Colts beat the Tennessee Titans 41-20 in Week 3. Fast forward a week, and not much has changed. Under Brian Callahan, the Titans still look like they don’t want to play.

Sunday’s Week 4 loss to the Houston Texans didn’t help. Cam Ward couldn’t find the end zone, and Houston ran away with it 26-0. Now, after 0-4 through four weeks, fans are loud and clear: Fire Coach Callahan. But if you ask Callahan…well, he isn’t sweating it, as confirmed by the Titans’ beat writer, Terry McCormick.

Brian Callahan said he isn’t worried about his job status. Said they are doing everything to prepare. Not getting the results and none of it is enough right now,” McCormick shared via his ‘X’ handle. It’s the same script we saw last week. The Colts defeated the Titans 41-20. The fans started calling out for HC’s firing. But Callahan didn’t seem to worry about the noise.

I don’t really worry about that, to be honest,” Callahan said after Week 3’s loss. “My focus is on trying to make sure our football team is in as good a place as possible, and the rest of that stuff is what it is. I don’t think about those things, and you really can’t. I mean, this is hard enough as it is to put those other things and think about that. It doesn’t do anybody any good.”

But Callahan’s focus on keeping his team in a good place isn’t showing up on the field, if we’re being real. For starters, take his indecisive timeout management, for instance. In Week 3, the Titans were facing a fourth-and-1 at the Colts’ 39-yard line with less than a minute remaining in the first half. The HC, however, hesitated between attempting a field goal and going for the conversion. The result?

His indecision led to a delay-of-the-game penalty. Kicker Joey Slye missed the longer attempt, and the Colts capitalised by driving 30 yards in 37 seconds to set up a field goal, resulting in a six-point swing. After the game, Callahan handed over the play-calling duties to quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree. Fast forward to Week 4? Same story.

Against the Texans, Tennessee’s offense was ineffective. Ward completed only 10 of 26 passes for 108 yards and an interception, resulting in a passer rating of 35.4. On top of that, the Texans’ defense limited them to just 175 total yards and zero red zone appearances. The struggles were palpable, and so were the calls for Coach Callahan’s firing. But then again, the head coach isn’t sweating it.

Brian Callahan and Cam Ward couldn’t find the rhythm

The Titans’ defense looked good. They limited the Texans to just a couple of field goals and punts in the first half. But it surely came out flat in the second half. The Texans’ rookies (RB Woody Marks: 2 and WR Jayden Higgins: 1) racked up three touchdowns in the second half, helping Houston secure a 26-0 win. The Titans’ offense, on the other hand?

They missed a field goal from Slye on a 41-yarder at the beginning of the game. And let’s just say things went south from there, as the Titans never find rhythm for the rest of the game. “Hard to say hard to find a rhythm,” Callahan said after the game. “You know, I thought we ran a ball okay in spots, still ended up getting in some long yardage things that were hard for us to overcome.”

The Titans could barely move the ball through the air. We’re talking about just 93 passing yards compared to Houston’s 224. Elic Ayomanor led the passing game with only 2 catches for 44 yards. On the ground, it wasn’t much better. Tennessee racked up 82 rushing yards, with Tony Pollard chipping in 64 on 14 carries. The message was clear: Cam Ward struggled against the Texans’ defense, and everyone knows Brian Callahan saw it, too.

We couldn’t possess the ball,” the HC added. “That was the hard part. We couldn’t really take control of the offensive rhythm. You know, we miss some throws. I think Cam’s (Ward) doing some good things, but he had some tough moments in this game. That’s still a really good defense, you know, and we didn’t play well enough against them (Texans).

That said, the 0-4 Titans now head into Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals. It’s way too early to say if they’ll finally get their first win, but we’ll see how things shake out.
