In the grand theater of the NFL, few acts have been as compelling as Tom Brady’s departure from the New England Patriots to craft a new chapter with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s a narrative that Kevin Hart masterfully wove into his roast, delivering a performance that was as sharp as a linebacker’s read in a quarterback’s eyes.

“Speaking of discomfort, let’s talk about Bill Belichick for a second,” Hart said, setting the stage for his roast of Brady in the Netflix Special “The Roast Of Tom Brady”. The special has an exciting cast of Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Andrew Schulz, and more with Brady on the hot seat.

Brady’s exit from the Patriots was not just a player transfer; it was the migration of a legend. After two decades, six Super Bowl titles, and an unbreakable bond with coach Belichick, Brady sought new horizons in 2020.

The move to Tampa was a seismic shift in the NFL landscape. Brady, the epitome of a Patriot, became a Buccaneer, and in his first year, he hoisted the Lombardi Trophy yet again, proving that his mastery of the game wasn’t confined to the northeast. “You left Bill Belichick with Mac Jones. God damn. Oh, you f**ked him. You f**ked him good. You did,” Hart joked, pointing out the stark contrast in the Patriots’ fortunes post-Brady.

Brady’s decision to leave was rooted in a desire for a new challenge and a fresh commitment, something he felt was lacking from the Patriots. He wanted a two-year, $50 million commitment, akin to Drew Brees’ deal with the Saints, but the Patriots didn’t budge. So Brady took his talents to Tampa, and the rest is history.

As Hart ribbed Brady about his bold move, it was clear that this was more than just a roast. It was a celebration of a player who redefined loyalty, legacy, and the pursuit of greatness. “I’m just here to have a good time,” Hart said, and indeed, the night was a testament to Brady’s incredible journey from a sixth-round pick to the G.O.A.T.

But the story was not the same for Mac Jones’ tenure with the New England Patriots while starting with promise, he ultimately did not meet the expectations set by his initial performances.

Mac Jones couldn’t fill the gap created by Tom Brady!

In the wake of Tom Brady’s departure, Mac Jones emerged as the New England Patriots’ new quarterback. Drafted 15th overall in 2021, Jones showed early signs of potential, completing an impressive 31 of 40 passes for 275 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception in a prime-time game against Brady and the Buccaneers. His streak of 19 consecutive completions during that game highlighted his precision and hinted at a promising future.

A Pro Bowl selection marked Jones’ rookie season, a 67.6 completion percentage, and a 92.5 passer rating, leading all rookies while compiling 3,801 yards and 22 touchdowns. After a strong start, Jones’s skills got worse each year. By the end of the 2023 season, he completed 66.1% of his throws, scored 46 touchdowns, but had 36 interceptions. His passer rating for his whole career was 85.8. In his last season with the Patriots, Jones threw for 1,229 yards. He scored a mere 8 touchdowns and had 4 interceptions. The Patriots then traded him to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In Jacksonville, Mac Jones is now Trevor Lawrence’s backup quarterback. As he returns to his hometown, Jones carries with him the lessons learned from his time in New England, aiming to apply them to his new role with the Jaguars.
