The NFL never fails to surprise. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, a quarterback known more for his arm than his hands snags a touchdown pass, while one of the league’s premier tight ends struggles to find the end zone.
Goff’s arm was hotter than a Detroit summer during the Monday night matchup with the Seahawks today, completing every pass he threw. 18 attempts, 18 completions, 292 yards, and two touchdowns. Oh, and just for kicks, he caught a touchdown too. Meanwhile, Kelce’s stat line through three games looked like a typo: 8 catches, 67 yards, 0 touchdowns, prompting one fan to joke, “Jared Goff has more receiving touchdowns than Travis Kelce. Trying not to laugh!”
Goff’s flawless performance shattered Kurt Warner’s previous record of 10 completions without an incompletion, set in 2005. But it was his 7-yard touchdown reception from Amon-Ra St. Brown that had fans buzzing. Goff and St. Brown became the eighth duo in league history to throw and catch a touchdown from each other.

“Jared Goff just set the record for most passing attempts without an incompletion in a single game in NFL history. A perfect 18-for-18.” Field Yates’ tweet on September 30, 2024, sent shockwaves through the NFL world.
The internet, being the internet, didn’t miss a beat. One fan noted: “Receiving TDs this year: Jared Goff: 1, Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, & Sam LaPorta combined: 0.” Ouch. Another fan took it a step further, noting, “Jared Goff has more TD catches this szn than Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, Trey McBride, George Pickens, Jaylen Waddle, and Brandon Aiyuk combined!”
What’s your perspective on:
Is Travis Kelce losing his edge, or was Monday night just a fluke?

Andy Reid’s not sweating about Travis Kelce (yet)
While Twitter roasted Kelce, Andy Reid kept his cool. After the Chiefs squeaked past the Chargers 17-10 on Sunday, Reid fired back at the doubters.

“I really don’t care what anybody thinks, to be honest with you,” Reid growled. “I watch what the defense does and how they respect him. I take it off of that, and I watch Trav every day. I get to see him and how he works…”
Turns out, Reid might be onto something. Against the Chargers, Kelce woke up. 7 catches, 89 yards, and a shiny new franchise record. With 922 career receptions, Kelce leapfrogged Tony Gonzalez’s 916. Not too shabby for a guy supposedly on the decline.

Reid, ever the tactician, broke it down: “They played quite a little bit of zone and Kelce did a nice job of getting in windows. And when they did play man he was able to do a nice job there. There weren’t as many double teams as he’s seen so he did very good.”
So, is Kelce back? Is Goff the new golden boy? Or is this just another whacky week in the NFL? One thing’s for sure – in this league, today’s hero can be tomorrow’s punchline. Just ask Jared Goff. Or Travis Kelce. Or both.
