Trevor Lawrence‘s Jaguars will face one of their biggest challenges in the season when they face the Ravens next Sunday. And it will be their first SNF appearance since 2008, which makes it even more challenging. But one may ask, how come they haven’t played a single SNF game in all these years?
Actually, they have. But the NFL’s branding doesn’t work like that. So, the Jaguars haven’t played an SNF and MNF game in 15 and 12 years, respectively. But the AFC top-seed Ravens could bring a surprise for the side that’s fighting to maintain their divisional lead. Is the away side prepared to face it?

Just two weeks ago, the Jaguars were being considered among the AFC contenders, standing toe-to-toe with the Ravens. While the Ravens went on to extend their dominance with two more wins, the time has gone the opposite way for the Jaguars. After losing two consecutive games against two AFC North sides, the table-topper Ravens come as the ultimate challenge.
Looking at things, the side doesn’t look in a great position. CB Tyson Campbell and Safety Andre Cisco did not practice on Wednesday with quadriceps and groin injuries, respectively. Even those who did practice, such as QB Trevor Lawrence, have been outmuscled by two backup QBs in his last two games. Lawrence hasn’t been performing badly in the season, but he has failed to turn up while trailing during the later minutes of the game.

That’s something the Jaguars can’t afford vs the Ravens to begin with, as touching Lamar Jackson and co. when they’re out of reach is an impossible task. Even while coming from behind, the team has effectively closed the gap. Which was evident vs the Rams. So far, the Jaguars’ 15-year-long SNF drought doesn’t seem to be ending on a memorable occasion.

The Jaguars last appeared on the SNF on October 5, 2008. 3 years later, they had their last MNF game on December 5, 2011. They have played on Mondays and Sundays since, but the league’s branding works differently than it seems. And for obvious reasons: marketing.
However, either way, the long-awaited end to the 15 years might not be smooth for the Jaguars. And the Ravens’ home team advantage just makes it worse for the side, as they try to maintain their divisional lead. But can Trevor Lawrence defy the odds to deliver a power-packed performance and break the Ravens’ lone dominance in the conference?
The Sunday Night Football will reveal it on December 17.
