The Dallas Cowboys yet again proved why they have the biggest fanbase in the NFL. The TNF game between the division rivals, the Cowboys and Commanders, has peaked at a staggering 44.265 million views. It is a number so big that it might put Taylor Swift fans to shame. The views shattered the effect of the singer’s recent presence in the league by a huge margin.

NFL Thanksgiving games have a reputation for often breaking records. But a few expected the Cowboys to pull this off in quick succession after last year’s statistics. They have truly justified their ‘biggest franchise’ tag with the win.

Taylor Swift proved no match for the Cowboys

The Cowboys are widely believed to be the most-watched franchise in the NFL. For both reasons, they have their fair share of haters as well. But the point is, at the end of the day, they bring in record numbers of views. And the numbers this time are jaw-dropping. According to CBS, the network gathered 41.438 million visitors during the game, which is among the highest ever. The views peaked at 44.265 million views. which, although not specified, we can still imagine lands in some kind of all-time record territory.

The numbers smoothly break October 1’s Chiefs vs. Jets game records at Arrowhead. According to NBC, the game recorded 27 million viewers as Taylor Swift made her first public appearance in a Chiefs jersey. It was also the most watched NFL game since Super Bowl LVII earlier this year, which accounted for over 113 million live views, the highest of all time. But the Cowboys blew the headline-grabbing game’s viewership by over 14 million, over a 50% increase.

The NFL viewership first broke the 40 million mark in 1990. The 49ers vs. Giants game from that year set the all-time record at 41.474 million average views. It stood for over 30 years and was only topped last year by the Cowboys. The 2022 Thanksgiving Day game between them and the Giants recorded 42 million average views, which set a new all-time record.

But with the biggest fanbase and over 17 million followers on their social handles combined, it had to be the Cowboys to match the numbers. The 41.438 million from this season not only makes Taylor Swift irrelevant in viewership terms, it also sits comfortably at the all-time 3rd place. This means two out of the top three all-time record-setting viewership games have been played by the Dallas Cowboys.

If the Cowboys clinch a playoff spot or, ideally, see a Super Bowl anytime soon, we can comfortably say that last edition’s 113 million average views won’t be standing safe either.
