The Titans‘ running back Derrick Henry waved goodbye to the side following the Jaguars‘ showdown. The four-time Pro Bowler became synonymous with the franchise and became their face for his on and off-field works. But just like every great thing, Henry’s time has come to an end at Tennessee.

The RB’s 4-year contract expires at the end of the regular season, and looking back at it – it was one of the greatest investments the side had ever made. Following the Titans’ exit, Henry will be a free agent. And given his numbers in the past 8 years, the RB will be welcomed at any side that could afford him.

Henry’s last performance for the Titans left its mark in the NFL. His 153 rushing yards and 1 touchdown took him to 1167 yards (2nd) and 12 TDs (2nd) for the season and threw the Jaguars out of the playoffs. But following a great display came a sad moment, as Henry announced his previously informed departure. He also thanked the fans, calling his time with the franchise “the greatest 8 years of my life” as his farewell.

Henry signed a 4-year, $50 million contract extension with the franchise in 2020, six months after he was named to his first Pro Bowl. Since then, the RB won a Pro Bowl for every year in his contract, except for the injury-laden 2021 season. He was named to his fourth Pro Bowl last week and exits the franchise as their only 4-time Pro Bowler ever.

Henry will become a free agent at the beginning of the offseason. And given his NFL numbers, the 30-year-old RB shouldn’t have a hard time finding his next destination.

Henry in numbers and potential destinations

Henry has been named in a total of 4 Pro Bowls in his career, starting in 2019. He was a 2020 Pro Bowler as well as the AP Offensive Player of the Year awardee. The RB’s 2021 season was cut short due to a week 8 injury while he was leading the league with 937 yards and 10 touchdowns. Coming back, Henry added two further Pro Bowls to his name.

In 2020, Henry finished 5th on all-time single-season rushing with 2027 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also became only the 8th player in NFL history to cross the 2000-yard mark. His career total of 9307 yards for 1999 carries and 92 touchdowns rank him as the active rushing leader in the league, and 38th highest of all time.

The NFL 2023 hasn’t been a great one for the past season’s toppers, and both the reigning champion Chiefs and the runner-up Eagles have seen a late collapse. Interestingly, both of their failures have something to do with the offense, especially the Chiefs. But the league-leading pass-rusher is now available as a free agent for them at the market.

One take at a time

My story of becoming an NFL writer is as interesting as my story of becoming an MMA practitioner. Coming from such a sport where athletes look to knock the brain cells off each other for a living, I liked the aggression that American Football had to offer. Before I even realized it, I religiously started following American football, picking up the most challenging in-depth write-ups.
