Lately, the NFL has raised a lot of eyebrows with its officiating. The league is not necessarily always wrong, but the circumstances under which the calls were made make them topics of controversy. Multiple players have already faced the heat after criticizing the league’s referees. Is Cowboys’ linebacker Micah Parsons the latest to join them?

The Dolphins vs Cowboys game from week 16 is as important as it gets. Both the 10-4 sides are second seeds from their respective conferences, and looking to head towards the postseason with a win streak. But during one play in the second quarter, Parsons nearly lashed out at the referee following a call. And it immediately caught attention.

Parsons shouts at the referee after penalty call

The Dolphins were leading 7-6 during the last seconds in the second quarter. Following a Dolphins’ drive, QB Tua Tagovailoa attempted a pass towards the wide line. He had barely moved from his place when Parsons came in crashing and pushed the QB from the backside, making him do a hard fall on the 15-yard line.

The referee immediately signaled for a ‘rough the passer’ penalty, but Parsons went crazy with the decision. As the referee was still making his call, the LB shouted at him, nearly getting physical and starting a brawl right in the middle of the field. Luckily, DE DeMarcus Lawrence was right beside him and pulled Parsons aside, calming the LB down.

While the incident didn’t turn ugly with the Cowboys eventually accepting the decision, it proved to be pivotal as the Dolphins scored a touchdown from the following drive. Things outside of the field can still go wrong for the RB, as three others have followed the wrong path earlier in the season.

Will the reaction cost Micah Parsons hefty fines?

The current season has been increasingly frustrating for some of the players, and the league has been unforgiving on certain occasions. It started with Steelers WR Diontae Johnson, who was handed a $25k thousand fine after criticizing the referee following the Jaguars‘ loss.

Then on December 16, BrownsMyles Garrett saw the same amount slapped on him following few controversial statements on officiating. On the very same day, Chiefs‘ QB Patrick Mahomes and HC Andy Reid received the same treatment with their comments following the Bills‘ loss.

While Parsons is yet to carry his frustrations to the post-game, he has a reason to be concerned given the league’s take on improper conduct with its officials.
