Having grown up as a Los Angeles Rams fan, it was a dream-come-true moment for Brenda Song, who made her debut as an NFL color commentator. However, the NFL world is not quite pleased with the decision to allow The Suite Life of Zack & Cody actress to take control of the booth. After her debut, the fans dropped brutal feedback.

As the Rams and the New Orleans Saints faced off on August 22 in SoFi Stadium, besides the gridiron, all focus was on the booth. Song made her debut during the third quarter of this matchup between the Rams and the Saints, joining Rob Havenstein, Jourdan Rodrigue, and J.B. Long. Veteran sports journalist and former columnist Jason Whitlock did not mince his words.
“We’re not a serious country,” commented Whitlock in a sarcastic way, questioning the credibility or professionalism of the broadcasting decision to appoint a Hollywood actress.
“Let’s go, let’s go,” shouted Song as New Orleans approached the goal line. Rams safety Alex Cook picked off Spencer Rattler and raced the interception all the way back for a touchdown. “We’re going home, bye!”
It showed that first-time broadcasters may struggle to keep their fan emotions out of the call.
This was her first exposure to broadcasting, but Song has played a part in the Rams’ 2025 schedule release. Other than this, by now, the fans have known the strong knowledge she holds about the sport. Maybe that’s what helped Song to earn the opportunity.
“Let me tell you, (Rams defensive coordinator) Chris Shula, I like you a lot,” she called out the Rams’ defense during her appearance on the Mythical Kitchen podcast when they lost the 2025 NFC Divisional Playoffs against the Philadelphia Eagles. “I like what you’ve done with our front four. But my issue is: We don’t have a run-stopper.
“We don’t use our middle linebackers in the middle. We can’t stop the run. That’s our biggest problem besides our O-line.”
However, back then, hardly did she know that she would land an NFL analyst role for the Rams game.
Wearing a Matthew Stafford MVP T-shirt, her excitement was palpable. But it was not enough to impress the fans who are used to listening to voices such as Maurice Jones-Drew, D’Marco Farr, among others, who come with a lot of experience.
The fact that Song bypassed all this experience to grab the role left fans upset.
NFL fans were also unhappy
Fans took to social media and shared their thoughts.
“So many people have worked their entire lives for that job. She gets to skip the line for what? What a joke,” one of them commented.
“And to think she’s famous for being a brain dead, entitled rich girl. It’s like she never left character,” wrote another fan, feeling that Song forgot to draw the line.
Song’s first memorable moment in the booth came when Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler connected with Jalen Moreno-Cropper for a 25-yard completion.
With the Rams building a comfortable lead over the Saints, Song’s appearance was less about the action on the field and more about the easygoing moments between plays, and casual conversation.
“Nothing about preseason football is serious,” a fan wrote.
“And of course she’s by far the worst at her job,” another fan did not sugarcoat.
No matter how Song was at her job, the Rams were definitely good at it as they won 34-0 against the Saints.
