The Super Bowl LIX is approaching fast. Or should we say it’s just a matter of time before Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs meet the Eagles to create history? And honestly, it’s even more exciting for Mahomes, who just welcomed his third child a few weeks ago. Brittany Mahomes has already confirmed that the newborn will be attending the Super Bowl along with her siblings to cheer for her dad.

Meanwhile, it’s just not Brittany and her kids who will be supporting him. There’s someone who’s a constant rooter for the three-time Super Bowl champion. And it’s none other than his grandfather, Randy Martin. However, we all know that Randy’s not been on good health terms, and since September last year, he’s been cheering for Mahomes from the hospital.

Back in September last year, Randi Mahomes took to her official social media handle and announced heartbreaking news to the Chiefs’ fans. “Prayer warriors, please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well,” she captioned one of her Instagram posts. Since then, her father, Randi Martin, has been suffering from an undisclosed illness.

Weeks after revealing her dad’s illness, Randi shared another picture of her father rooting for his grandchild, Patrick Mahomes, and the Chiefs in one of the regular season’s games. Though he was discharged a month later back in October 2024, but in January 2024, Randi shared another fearsome update on her father.

She revealed that her father was now moved to hospice care due to a decline in his health. She broke the news just a couple of days before the AFC Championship round in one of her IG stories, captioning, “My dad is in a hospice and I’m lost for words,” along with a bible verse Colossians 3:20, which reads, “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”

Fast forward to now and looks like there’s some positive update coming from the hospital. While Randi is taking care of her father in the hospital, she updated all her fans with another social media post. “Afternoon with daddy & all he wants to talk about is the Super Bowl,” she wrote. Now, that’s indeed a positive update, considering Randy Martin is speaking to his daughter, right? The Super Bowl is just around the corner and Randy Martin is all in for supporting Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Who is the Chiefs’ QB’s grandfather?

Larry Randy Martin was born on January 6, 1947, to Carroll Houston Martin and Gladys Winona Sharp in Cherokee County, Texas. Randy married his soulmate Deborah on June 6, 1969, at First Assembly of God Church, Overton, Texas, and together they have three children: Jill, Lori, and Randi.

It is safe to say that Randy and Deborah are the ones who shaped Randi Mahomes into the person she is today. The reason? Well, Patrick Mahomes’ granddad is a former school principal. His side gig? To give his kids the best education possible. As for his teaching career, Randy Martin spent 33 years at Gatesville State School for Boys, Madisonville, Troup, Maydelle, and Palestine High School.

Fast forward to now and his daughter, Randi, gives all the credit to her family, especially her dad. Before getting admitted to hospice, Randy lived with his little family in the small town of Troupe, East Texas. And despite suffering from an illness, he’s still rooting for his grandchild to win the Super Bowl. Isn’t that a beautiful moment?
