When Dwight Freeney stepped onto the stage in Canton, this summer to accept his gold jacket, he’ll have more than just his football career to celebrate. Behind the scenes, his wife Brittany Freeney has been crafting her own success story, one swimsuit at a time.

From fashion editor to swimwear mogul

Brittany’s path to fashion entrepreneurship is as unique as her designs. After earning her BA from the University of Michigan, she spent eight years in New York City, working for prestigious magazines like GQ, Vogue, Marie Claire, and Elle. This experience laid the foundation for her future endeavors.

In 2017, Brittany launched JADE Swim, a brand that embodies her minimalist aesthetic and commitment to sustainability. “JADE Swim™ is different, unique, meaningful. Simple but more than basic,” reads the brand’s website. The collection is “carefully crafted from luxe fabric to smooth and sculpt the body,” with each piece designed to transition “from day to night, from beach to city, as swim or ready-to-wear.”

Brittany’s dedication to her craft is evident in every aspect of her business. As a member of 1% For The Planet, JADE Swim demonstrates a commitment to environmental responsibility. The brand’s handmade-in-California ethos further underscores its focus on quality and sustainability.

When asked about her favorite swimwear material, Brittany told Palm Beach Illustrated in 2021, “Nylon/spandex. It’s so versatile and easy to transition to bodysuit wear.” This practical approach to design has helped JADE Swim carve out a niche in the competitive swimwear market.

Beyond the business, Brittany’s personal style reflects her brand’s ethos. “I love minimal fine jewelry that layers well,” she shared, describing her signature accessories. Her transition to clean beauty products during pregnancy led her to discover new favorites, like Ilia mascara, which she now can’t live without.

Brittany’s secret operation of a Hall of Fame surprise

While Brittany has made a name for herself in fashion, she recently showcased her skills in an entirely different arena: surprise planning. When Dwight was selected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024, Brittany saw an opportunity to create a moment her husband would never forget.

The stage for this surprise? None other than NBA legend Michael Jordan’s exclusive golf club, The Grove XXIII. “Michael was so excited and receptive to the idea of having the NFL at his place,” Brittany shared to Fox9. “It was perfect.”

Planning the surprise required all of Brittany’s creative prowess. She had to sneak away to the golf club several days in advance to coordinate the details. “My wife was giving me this whole story that ‘I’m going to go walking with someone or going to go work out with someone,'” Dwight recalled, completely unaware of what was in store.

On the day of the surprise, Brittany managed to get Dwight to dress up under the guise of a photo shoot for Jordan. When Dwight finally walked into the room, he was greeted by an unexpected scene: Tony Dungy, his former coach, sitting there with a gold jacket, cameras rolling, and his wife, laughing at her successful ruse.

“I walk in and open the door and coach Dungy is sitting there with a gold jacket and all these cameras,” Dwight recounted. “My wife’s sitting there, laughing. She’s held the secret for a week… It was awesome. I was completely shocked. I had no idea.”

The surprise was a testament to Brittany’s ability to juggle multiple roles – from swimwear designer to secret-keeper extraordinaire. As Dwight put it, “She’s been planning it all week with Michael when she told me she was out walking or working out.”

In the end, the emotional day wrapped up in true Freeney fashion. Back at their West Palm Beach home, daughters Olivia and Alana were waiting, blissfully unaware of their dad’s golden moment. As Dwight humorously noted, “The jacket could be gold, brown, or black. It doesn’t matter. I get, ‘Daddy, feed me. I’m hungry.'”

From designing innovative swimwear to orchestrating unforgettable moments, Brittany Freeney proves she’s a force to be reckoned with – both in business and in life. As Dwight prepares to join the ranks of football’s greatest, it’s clear that behind this Hall of Famer stands an equally impressive partner, ready to make waves in her own right.
