In a bid to renovate motorsport, a group of sporting entities have co-invested in Formula One’s BWT Alpine team. The star-studded lineup includes names from the sports of American Football, Boxing, Golf, and Soccer. Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are part of this investment from the NFL. This is an addition to Mahomes’ ever-growing sporting interest that includes a few soccer and Baseball teams already.

Alpine’s management has shaken the F1 grid with this high-profile announcement. The Alpine F1 team is owned by French car manufacturer Renault Group. Renault has been pushing them for glory under a new branding since 2021.

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce joins Alpine F1

Reigning NFL champions Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, former heavyweight boxing world champion Anthony Joshua, Golfer Rory McIlroy, and Premier League stars Trent Alexander Arnold and Juan Mata have co-invested in the BWT Alpine F1 team. The team’s official Instagram account has made the big announcement.

“I’ve always had a passion for all sports. The opportunity to lead an investor group with Travis in Alpine F1 alongside Otro Capital was one I couldn’t pass up. It’s an exciting time for the sport and this is an opportunity to bring our shared values to the world stage. I’m looking forward to being a part of its growth”, Mahomes spoke about the decision.

Earlier in June this year, the Renault group had sold a 24% stake in the team to a consortium of three companies. One of them, Otro Capital, recently invited this $210,970 million bid. Given Patrick Mahomes’ enthusiasm for various sports, he has jumped in to catch the opportunity. This time, teammate Travis Kelce has partnered with Mahomes.

But this isn’t the quarterback’s first time investing in a sports team. There are a couple of franchises that already enjoy the two-time Super Bowl winner as their co-owner. And the ownerships date back to 2020.

Which teams do Patrick Mahomes co-own?

Patrick Mahomes has been a minority owner of the MLB side Kansas City Royals since July 2020 and the MLS side Sporting Kansas City since 2021. He seems to have a special place for Soccer in his heart as the quarterback joined his wife, Brittany, as the co-owner of NWSL side Kansas City Currents in January 2023. Brittany Mahomes, an ex-soccer player was one of the co-founders of the Currents when the franchise was founded as an extension team of NWSL in December 2020.

Mahomes’ latest involvement in the racing circuit is a new addition to his sporting interests. The Chiefs captain is also mentoring fellow Kansan, tight end Travis Kelce in his endeavor. With the backing of the NFL superstars and a couple of high-profile athletes from other sports, it will be interesting to see if the Alpine can revive their fortune. Especially after their most successful driver, Fernando Alonso’s departure from the team last year.
