Dean Spanos’ love for the LA Chargers seems unmatched when it comes to team owners in the NFL. The Spanos family, as the fans refer to them often, recently played a big role in bringing Jim Harbaugh to the team, thus securing better chances at the Super Bowl this season.

The American businessman, whose net worth is reported to be $1 billion, was said to not be sparing any expense when it came to the betterment of the team. According to recent sources, Spanos offered Harbaugh an annual salary of $16 million per year throughout a five-year, $80 million contract. Additionally, Spanos has deep pockets for the Chargers, but also has a deeper love for the spirit of the team, as was revealed in a recent podcast.

In a recent clip from the ‘Colin Cowherd’ podcast, the host talked about the truth behind the curtain regarding Spanos’ love for the Chargers. He further dived into the recent ticket sales for the Chargers’ upcoming games, which have set a record in the league.

Cowherd stated, “When the Chargers left San Diego, I didn’t necessarily bash Dean Spanos. He has, no intention of selling, the team. He’s owned, the team forever he loves the team and he fought his ass off to keep it in San Diego but local politicians are how can I say this mostly untalented hacks. “

He added, “And the reason I bring this up is because the Chargers now have blown past their season ticket average in San Diego the last 20 years. It’s officially now the fastest-growing season ticket sale base in the entire league. They’re at 90 percent. Nobody wants to mention this. You can never side with the owner. But in the end, this is why they left. And this tells you two things, one we knew, LA has two NFL teams, a baseball team that draws almost 5 million, USC, UCLA, two NBA teams, and a Hockey team, and on any given night, they’re all crushing.” 

Thus, it is apparent that the 73-year-old is extremely passionate about doing what’s best for his beloved team, but in recent revelations; it is being speculated that Spanos might not just be that generous with his money.

The Los Angeles Chargers reportedly skimp out on paying a lot for their coaches and management except for Harbaugh

It was recently rumored that Sean Payton showed a keen interest in being the Chargers’ newest HC in case of an opening. Though later, Payton ended up signing a contract with the Broncos, worth over $18 million, which is essentially four times more than the $4 million that the previous coach, Brandon Staley, was earning.

In response to these claims, Anthony Lynn, the former coach for the Chargers, indirectly called out the team after signing with the San Francisco 49ers. He said, “This organization will do whatever it takes to win. Resources out the [ears]. That was different for me compared to what I was going through in L.A. So it’s just like, man, this is what it’s supposed to be like.” However, Harbaugh is being offered all the luxuries he wants as he continues to draw in coaches from Michigan to the Chargers.
