Cam Newton recently grabbed headlines again. A short clip of his from the 7-on-7 tournament in Atlanta is going viral after an unexpected and violent brawl. Things got worse at the tournament when someone from TSP (TopShel Performance) team, appeared to sucker-punch Newton out of nowhere. This led to Newton Having to protect himself against several people.

The video shows the former Panthers star taking on multiple attackers with ease. Newton, wearing his distinctive hat, can be seen being pushed by three men dressed in black near a staircase-like area. In the video, Newton grabs a person by his backpack and throws them to the ground while holding another one in a headlock. The situation escalated as they moved toward a fence and some more men joined. Meanwhile, another person in a white shirt punches someone else in the crowd.

This clumsy scuffle lasted less than 30 seconds before police and event security intervened. Newton, the first pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, doesn’t throw any punches but appears to defend himself against the other men quite well. However, there have been no reports of any serious injuries from the player or any other parties involved in the altercation till now.

Unraveling the triggers behind Cam Newton’s on-field scuffle

It’s unclear what triggered the altercation, although it might be linked to a video Newton posted on social media earlier. In the video, Newton said, “If you beat my team – 15U C1N Red or 18U C1N Platinum – I will pay every single player on the team. Tell me who’s doing that. If that ain’t putting your money where your mouth is, I don’t know what to say.” Newton made these remarks before his team lost to TopShelf Performance’s 18U team.

C1N is an organization based in Atlanta that was started in 2021 by Newton. It aims to help young athletes improve their football skills by giving them opportunities to compete in top-level 7-on-7 tournaments and other events. The organization’s mission is to create an environment that encourages growth on and off the field, helping young athletes achieve their football and life goals.
