The NFL offseason has become a rollercoaster ride for the Los Angeles Chargers. As Jim Harbaugh stepped in to take the helm of the franchise, he resumed his pursuit of the first Super Bowl win. However, his path to glory has not been as smooth as he expected, as there have been certain abrupt turns. 

The most recent being the veteran running back, Austin Ekeler, bidding farewell and embarking on a new chapter with the Washington Commanders. However, Harbaugh remains unfazed despite the circumstances and returns to the main track by signing a former Seattle Seahawks star. 

A fresh start for Austin Ekeler

Ekeler’s cutting ties with the Chargers marked the end of his seven-year stint. The veteran running back had signed a four-year deal worth $24.5 million in 2020. After experiencing highs and lows, the running back is geared toward signing a two-year contract with Washington. The 2023 season has not been in his favor owing to disappointing touchdown aggression and an ankle injury.

It was a blow for the Chargers’ fans since he had led the table for touchdowns in the previous two seasons. Stepping in as the new HC, Harbaugh, too, held high hopes for Ekeler. In an interview, the coaching maestro claimed, “I like Austin Ekeler. We’re going to have a huge emphasis on the run game, and we gotta block better up front. He’s a tremendous back and we’d love to have him on the team next year.” However, at times, things do not go as planned.

This deal also encompasses a $3 million signing bonus backed by the potential to earn an additional $1.5 million as incentives in the inaugural year. He struck again, this time securing the commitment of Will Dissly, the former Seahawks tight end. The Chargers signed him to a three-year contract of $14 million.

Besides, it comprises a substantial offer of $10 million guaranteed in the first two seasons.
