Iowa Hawkeyes’s 22-year-old Caitlin Clark has rewritten the record books. Now, she has set her sights on a new chapter of her extraordinary journey. However, amidst all these achievements, the young athlete has been a target of none other than former Steelers’ Antonio Brown.

Brown’s career even though marked by incredible achievements with the Steelers, has been overshadowed by a series of off-field incidents. A series of his tweets have been directed at the basketball player. His latest tweet too captures Brown in the same mood of nudging Clark after her recent announcement.

After she announced her plan to earn a spot in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Brown reshared her news on X with his own flair. The ex-Steelers caught attention with the caption that stated, “Lethal Weapon 5”, drawing a comparison with Mel Gibson

However, it is not a random comment that the former NFL wide receiver passed. Only basketball and football fans know the context of the caption in detail. This disparaging remark not only undermines Clark’s achievements but also points at Brown’s act of overshadowing her triumph with unnecessary controversy. This takes us back to a moment when the young basketball star became the target of Brown’s ‘playful’ jab.

Backlash and Brown’s attempt to clarify

Last month, the 22-year-old Iowa superstar dropped a record-high 49 points and solidified her status as one of the greatest players. Here entered, Tom Brady’s ex-mate, Brown who amidst the celebration of Clark’s remarkable feat took to Twitter. The player claimed, B**** look look Mel Gibson.”

The negative response that he garnered on social media made Brown take responsibility for his previous claim. In response to the situation, the NFL player made another tweet where he claimed that his comment was meant as a “joke for entertainment”.  While Brown may have intended to lighten the situation with his tweet, the apology fell short for fans who found the past comment to be offensive and inappropriate.

Now that Clark, following a milestone achievement as the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division 1 in women’s basketball, gears up for Senior Day against No.2 Ohio State, a bright future lies ahead of her. With a crucial journey that lies ahead of Clark, now it is to be seen how she carries the weight of Brown’s words.
