Weeks after the Netflix roast of Tom Brady, fans got another chance to grill the NFL GOAT. This time, it’s not about his ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, or any of his on-field antics; rather, the roast revolves around the auction of his pants. Yes, you read that right! The pair of trousers Brady wore in his last-ever NFL game is going to the highest bidder via Grey Flannel Auctions.

It cost the new owner of the pants a whopping $89,100. This was not the first that Tom Brady memorabilia went out for sale; earlier, his used items had fetched six-digit figures at a live auction.

Bidding frenzy for Brady’s final game pants

Reports suggest the bid amount for Brady’s unique piece of sports memorabilia (read: pants) peaked as the final price tag shattered the minimum $10k price. It was a size 34 pewter and red pants that Brady wore in the ultimate game of his Hall of Fame career. The slacks include the date and Cowboys’ name handwritten inside the waistband and a Bucs #12 tag. The clothing piece was from January 16, 2023, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wild Card. Even though the attire was from a game that the TB12 lost, it did not restrict the highest bidder from paying $89,100.

Like the proud owner of his pants, there is another collector who paid $518,000 for Tom Brady’s final touchdown ball at an auction back in 2022. In November last year, the legend’s final game jersey was sold at Sotheby’s auction for a record $1.4 million. Even though paying such a fortune for a jersey was celebrated by many, fans could not accept paying a five-digit figure for pants.

Fan reactions to Brady’s pant auction oddities

After Jim Abbott’s game-used New York Yankees jersey he wore during their no-hitter against Cleveland on September 4, 1993, was sold at the auction, all attention went to Brady. Though it is not known who was the buyer for Brady’s pants, a fan found it to be a peculiar choice, “Freaky lol.” “I wouldn’t take them for free,” claimed another fan who strongly placed his opinion that he would not have taken the used trousers even if it came with no cost.

To another fan, he is not at all moved by the lofty purchase, “Nobody cares.” “Kevin hart bought them so he can sniff em,” a clever fan applied the trump card, drawing influence from Hart’s roast session on Brady from the Netflix show. It was during the show, the host ripped TB12 for leaving ex-HC Bill Belichick with Mac Jones.

Whether or not you are a fan of Tom Brady, everyone would undeniably like a piece of memorabilia from who many call the greatest ever. The only game pants to sell for more than the TB12’s were worn by Babe Ruth, which went for $183,500 in 2012.
