Samantha McAfee never liked needles. “I’m terrified,” she once said. But over the last few years, she gave herself hundreds anyway. That’s what IVF required from her. Sometimes three a day. It wasn’t a phase. It was the phase of her life where schedules were taped to the fridge and alarms were set for injections. Then there were back-to-back procedures, and eventually, surgeries that left her with no Fallopian tubes at all. She started calling herself a “human science project.” It wasn’t a complaint. It was just what it felt like. And through it, she kept sharing, mostly on Instagram, not to be brave or inspirational, but because infertility can feel isolating and clinical. And if putting it out there helped one other person feel less alone, that was enough.
Because when you’re in that storm—infertility, surgeries, unanswered prayers—it’s easy to think you’re the only one. But Samantha? She isn’t the kind of person to break down. In fact, she turned her own pain into someone else’s flashlight. “Dear women and couples trying and battling, I hope this isn’t a trigger, but rather serves as hope,” she wrote, sharing her tough story to anyone who needed it.
And if you’re thinking that she went under the knife once or twice, then you’re highly mistaken. In fact, we’re talking years of it. Last week, she underwent another surgery as she shared the news using her IG handle. “The amount of surgeries I have had in the past five years is alarming,” she wrote. Indeed. And now?

Well, after less than a week of undergoing another surgery, which she hoped would be her last, Samantha McAfee is out there enjoying the cozy weather while sharing an update on her post-surgery comfort. “Shout out to weather letting me sport sweatpants for my post-surgery comfort,” she wrote, sharing a picture with Pat McAfee holding her hands as the couple was glowing in pleasant temps.
Samantha is seen rocking classic black sweatpants with white stripes down the side. And yes, you can assume how comfy they feel. Up top, she donned a black tee layered under this bold, retro-cool varsity jacket—white stripes, bright rainbow stripes, and that grin and glow on her face is just the cherry on the cake.
And then there’s Pat McAfee, going full husband-support mode, holding her hands with that real MVP smile. And honestly, that’s the silver lining for the couple, considering the past few years have been rough and tough for both of ’em. From numerous surgeries to miscarriages, Pat and Samantha endured everything.
Samantha and Pat McAfee’s tough journey over the years
In the past few years, Samantha and Pat’s journey has been anything but smooth as the couple was trying to welcome their first child. The couple welcomed their daughter on May 4, 2023, after Samantha miscarried a couple of times. They named her Mackenzie Lynn McAfee. But the journey wasn’t straightforward at all. After miscarrying twice, Samantha had to remove both of her Fallopian tubes. And the chances of natural conception? Impossible for her.
Having said that, Pat and Samantha turned to IVF, and despite her fear of needles, she endured the pain of 150+ needles. And finally, Samantha and Pat McAfee welcomed their first child together a couple of years back and called her their “double rainbow baby.” While it was one of the memorable moments of their lives, another tragedy struck a couple of years later.
