You know how some things just sit quietly for years, tucked away in a dusty box, totally forgotten—until suddenly they explode onto the scene? That’s kind of the vibe with Tom Brady cards. Collectors have chased them like treasure hunters—think Indiana Jones chasing lost artifacts—flipping out over one tiny autograph or that rare “1-of-1” label. It’s like these cards have secret lives, hiding stories and surprises just waiting to pop up.
But just recently, something totally unexpected went down that included an insane story, a collector’s quest, and a hidden sealed box of Topps football cards. Topps, one of the biggest and oldest sports card companies, recently took to their Instagram account and shared an insane story. “This is an insane story. This collector went to a local estate sale, and ended up buying a sealed box of Topps football cards from 2007,” they wrote.
But the plot thickened. As they went on, “Upon opening the box, he discovered a Platinum 1/1 Tom Brady card that had been missing for 18 YEARS!!! A new piece of hobby history has officially surfaced for the first time ever!🔥.” Well, that’s exactly what happened. Crazy story of luck and timing, isn’t it? And here comes the craziest part.

Right after that went down, Brady slid into the Topps’ comment section and straight-up admitted that he wants that Platinum 1/1 Tom Brady card, literally. “Need that!!!!” He commented. If you’ve followed the NFL legend this year, then you might be aware that the guy has invested in the $13 billion sports card industry. Earlier this year, Brady acquired a 50% stake in CardVault, a sports card and memorabilia retailer.
CardVault’s job? Well, it operates as a retail location and vaulting service. Translation? Simple: the collectors can store, buy, sell, or trade valuable sports cards. And that means only one thing: Brady is trying to get his hands on the recently found Platinum 1/1 Tom Brady card for CardVault. But it’s not going to be an easy job. Why?

Because Brady needs to wait if the card is mint or gem mint, or maybe poor
A week ago, a sports card collector who goes by the name of BulldogSportsCards on Reddit shared a cool story on the platform. “Recently, I came across a local company that does auctions for Estates, etc. Occasionally, they will have auctions with sports card lots and sealed product in them… The lot I won included Items such as: 2007 Topps NFL Hobby Box, 2006 Bowman NFL Hobby Box, 99-00 Topps Chrome NBA Hobby Box, 2005 Topps Chrome NFL Hobby Box, 2007 Topps Chrome NFL Hobby Box.”
What’s your perspective on:
Is Tom Brady's interest in his own card a savvy business move or pure nostalgia?
Have an interesting take?
The guy later went on to spend over $3k plus on the lots, and let’s just say it was worth it. How? Well, once the guy unsealed the Topps football cards from 2007, he managed to find the 1/1 Tom Brady card. Just like that. And now? Well, Tom Brady has his sights on his card from 2007. The catch? “The item will be sent to PSA to be authenticated and slabbed,” the collector concluded.
Here’s the deal: the ultimate 1/1 Tom Brady card is now at PSA, basically the “Judge Judy” of sports cards, deciding if it’s a rockstar mint or just a “meh” card. It’s like waiting for your favorite Netflix show to drop. It’s going to be under an immense evaluation. Centering, corners, edges, surface, you name it. Everything’s going to be authenticated.

Whether it’s going to be a gem mint or poor? No one has a clue. And Brady? Well, we can assume the NFL legend is surely going to take it for CardVault.
