Tom Brady’s trusty backup, Brian Hoyer, revealed interesting insights into how fast the quarterback swapped teams. Right amid the training, Brady left a hint for Hoyer about his potential move out of the franchise. Even though the most-talked-about Apple TV+ docuseries, The Dynasty, skipped to mention this emotional journey of Brady cutting ties with the New England Patriots, Hoyer took charge in NBC Sports Boston.

As delved by the backup, off-field drama and the contract negotiations overshadowed the 2019 campaign. According to Tom E. Curran’s report, Brady’s desire for a $50 million contract two years ahead of the 2019 season was not accepted by the then Patriots HC, Bill Belichick. This gave rise to tension, and as Hoyer recalled, “I remember one day Tom coming to me and being like, “Hey babe, just be ready to play the whole year.’ And I remember being like, ‘What happened? Did you get hurt? What’s going on?’ And he said, ‘I just want to prepare you,’ and he kind of left it at that.”

Hoyer then shed light on how badly Brady was hurt by this, which propelled him to make an instant decision: “We’ve won the Super Bowl, and he basically said, I’m not willing to go through it again like this. I mean I did not know it was to that extent and um like I said that was cleared up pretty quickly because it was one day where he didn’t practice and then you know the contract was the new contract was signed and he was back out there.” Hence, this was the end of Brady’s 20-season-long tie with the Patriots. Do keep an eye out for more updates.

Brady’s contract saga and the emotional toil

In August 2019, the Patriots were standing at the crossroads with Brady’s contract extension. The quarterback who was then 43-years-old placed his request for a $50 million deal that the program was unwilling to fulfill any long-term contract with the quarterback. The TB12 was then approached by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a two-year deal worth $30 million per season.

However, it was an emotional journey for Brady whose departure from the Patriots after 20 seasons marked the end of an era. His tearful admission left the New England CEO, Robert Kraft to recall the emotional moment as he claimed, “We walked into the room, he said ‘I’ve decided to move on. And as soon as he said it, he started crying. And his crying told me everything I needed to know.”

However, as Brady moved on to Tampa Bay, he left an impact enough to crumble the Patriots dynasty. Following the dismal 2023 season, Bill Belichick also took an exit from the program. Meanwhile, even after going through an emotional toil for Brady, “It was hard, but it was great” as he continued to spread his prowess in the Buccaneers.
