Like any other sibling pair, John Harbaugh and Jim Harbaugh also have a sweet and sour relationship. The two have never backed an inch away from cheering the loudest for each other during the other’s game. However, that was until the two faced each other as the head coaches in the Super Bowl 2012. The cheers dialed down a bit then. Yet, the two continue to be each other’s biggest cheerleaders, with John Harbagh wishing nothing but the best for his brother as he re-entered the NFL as the Chargers’ head coach. Accompanying Jim Harbaugh as the general manager is Joe Hortiz, a staff member working closely with his brother John in the Ravens from 1998 all the way till 2024.

John Harbaugh still wished the best for his brother and even prophesied that Hortiz would fit in with Jim Harbaugh and Co. like the last piece of the puzzle. It was during meeting and greeting through John Harbaugh that Jim and Joe Horitz got acquainted with each other, as Hortiz revealed after assuming the role of Chargers’ general manager. “Being with John so long I’ve certainly gotten to know Jim rather well, as brothers. Jim came into Baltimore when he was at Stanford and Michigan, me going to visit him there. I was looking forward to getting started with Jim and it’s been awesome” Joe Hortiz said about Jim Harbaugh solidifying John’s predictions about the duo.

However, speculations from around the world predicted that this would be another note in the unsettled records between the two brothers, as Jim Harbaugh took away an important staff member from the Ravens. It was not, rather; it was the opposite.

John on Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh working together

What might come as quite off-calling was John Harbaugh being happy for Hortiz to join Harbaugh! Hortiz revealed that all was well and good with John. “He’s told me that he’s happy that the two of us are together,” Hortiz said. Safe to say, Jim Harbaugh also shares equal excitement in his new partnership with the Ravens’ former director of player personnel.

For Harbaugh, the partnership with Hortiz is nothing less than a treasure chest found, given the sheer knowledge he has of the league. Moreover, for him, the word from his brother was the ultimatum, which was the only push Jim Harbaugh needed to hire Hortiz.
