There is a new speedster in town who, besides outrunning defenders, is also outrunning headlines. It is none other than Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy. The player secured his spot in the news after his performance in the 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, which left a mark among fans. 

Who thought that among his fandom, the Kansas City Chiefs’ popular face, Patrick Mahomes, would also join hands? With Mahomes’ kind words, Worthy’s path to the future indicates toward the Kansas City Chiefs, taking up the role of Tyreek Hill based on a few factors.

Worthy has already been a potential first-round pick by setting a record of catching 75 passes for 1,014 yards, along with five touchdowns in the last season. However, this time, he did something outstanding by clocking in a spectacle and taking charge of the dash in 4.21 seconds. Besides achieving the record-breaking feat, his belief to have gone even faster with an additional attempt immediately caught the attention of Mahomes.

Per insights shared by Worthy, he had the honor of being reached out by Mahomes himself over a text message. The legend reached out to the rising star, congratulating that it holds profound meaning now that the NFL Draft is knocking at the door.

He expressed his preference for the Chiefs: “In a perfect world, I definitely would want to go to the Chiefs. Just the way Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improvise and use you. They had [wide receiver] Tyreek Hill. The way they used him, I feel like that would be a perfect fit for me.” Worthy’s potential makes him a good fit for the Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs had traded Hill to the Miami Dolphins back in March 2022. In an interview with USA Today, the Texas wide receiver acknowledged Hill’s impact on Kansas City’s offense over his five-year tenure with the team. Hill’s explosive speed and playmaking abilities that catered to the team’s success, including the Super Bowl LIV victory, have prompted Worthy to see himself as a potential successor to the former Chiefs star.

According to Worthy, he believes that his agility and speed perfectly align with the improvisation play and strategic use of wide receivers. Despite concerns about his size and specific measurements, his performance concerning speed and agility tests places Worthy in the 96th percentile. With the Chiefs all set to change their dynamics of wide-receiver room for the next season, Worthy’s natural talent will be amalgamated with Mahomes’ brilliance.

Acquiring Worthy with their second-round pick at No. 64 could be a strategic move. Now that the Kansas City Chiefs have emerged as a potential landing spot, whether Worthy can take up Hill’s position is now to be seen.
