After Losing Cormani McClain, Coach Prime Suffers Another Setback as Transfer Portal Disaster Continues

The Spring transfer is bringing in mixed emotions for Deion Sanders and Co. On one hand, some transfers are leaving the CU locker room deserted and on the other, some fresh faces are expected to come in. While e new talents are yet to enter the Buffs equation, the players entering their names in the transfer portal are becoming a pressing concern for Deion Sanders and Co.
Cormani McClain entering the transfer portal became the biggest news as soon as the spring portal window was jarred open. And the headlines didn’t stop there as several other Buffs players beeline their way out of Colorado. Per NoSkoZone, the latest Buffs player to enter the transfer portal is freshman defensive end Eric Brantley Jr. The 6-foot, 235-pound defensive end only spent 4 months at Buffs since he came in as a part of this season’s recruiting class.

Brantley was the underdog at CU. Not only was he Prime’s first high school commit in December 2022, but he was also a three-star from Valdosta (Georgia). He was also ranked as the 46th-best player in his state, totaling 34 sacks and 108 tackles during his high school career. Brantley Jr. entering the transfer portal would up the tally of CU student-athletes transfer portal to a staggering 17.

Cormani McClain’s departure would be a major blow for Deion Sanders and his team, especially since Shedeur Sanders will leave for the 2025 NFL draft after the season. Even though Sanders was quite happy for McClain’s future during the DNVR podcast, he knew about the bigger pressing problem.

“I’m always in prayer for our young men, and I want the best for them. I pray to God that he goes to a program that challenges him, as well as holds him accountable and develops him as a young man,” Sanders said. Safeties Jaden Milliner-Jones and Myles Slusher, offensive linemen Isaiah Jatta and Savion Washington, and defensive lineman Chazz Wallace were some other names from CU that joined McClain in the transfer portal.

Speaking about the damage control plans of the Buffs, Deion Sanders revealed how he was planning on stocking up the Buffs roster again. “We still have, I think 4-5 more young men coming in that we know are coming in, especially QB position,” Sanders said during his Thursday press conference. He also added that more pass rushers and about 4 more defensive backs are expected to come in through the spring transfer portal. Hence, Sanders and Co. are ready with their foolproof plan to secure the 2025 season.
