The Colorado Buffaloes football program is back on track after days of witnessing a mass exodus. Deion Sanders has shaken hands with the former University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) TE transfer, Charlie Williams. The spring window of the transfer portal dragged Coach Prime’s Buffaloes into a tunnel of darkness after the exit of reputable names like Cormani McClain and company.

With the arrival of Williams, the Colorado Buffaloes are poised for a recovery. His commitment marks the first signee of this transfer season, filling a crucial void at the tight end position that has been vacant since the start of the transfer season.

Coach Prime gains faith of Colorado native

The Instagram account of the Buffs, noskozone,” has yet again become active with active posts about the spring transfer portal. The April 20 post is special as they reveal the first milestone of Sanders’ Colorado this spring season. Keeping their signature color code black and gold, the poster revealed the name of Charlie Williams with the word “COMMITTED” written in gold. The caption read, “BREAKING: Former UNLV TE transfer Charlie Williams has committed to Colorado! He’s a hometown guy from Aspen, CO. IMG grad.”

The Centennial State native, too, came up with a stamp of confirmation through his tweet where he wrote, “Comin’ Home.” Now that Sanders has lost 17 players to the portal, this addition is worth celebrating. After having a short stint in Las Vegas, the 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end makes his way to the Buffs.

Interestingly, Williams shares a unique bond with some of his new teammates, including Cash Cleveland, Jordan Seaton, and Isreal Solomon, all of whom also hail from IMG Academy. As Sanders’ program strives to prove its potential in Boulder, Williams’ arrival couldn’t be more crucial.

Deion Sanders and his sensitivity to the tight end’s position

Apart from McCain, the two other big possessions that Coach Prime had always flaunted are tight end Chamon Metayer and running back Alton McCaskill. Metayer transferred to CU from Cincinnati in January, while McCaskill was a Houston transfer last summer. Having gained Sanders’ faith, both were viewed as leaders in their position groups.

But not anymore, as both have decided to move out of the Colorado Buffaloes. Coach Prime has strategically rebuilt the tight end room from top to bottom and revamped the philosophy, intending that he will be very particular about the tight end position this season. In such a situation, the departure of Metayer came as a huge blow. However, it was not for long that Coach Prime had to scout to fill in the position and found relief in securing Williams’ commitment.

The addition of Charles Williams makes another addition of Florida-based player in the CU roster that is currently twenty-two. Even though Deion Sanders’ Colorado is running negative with five overall this year in the portal, some important visitors’ names are expected over the course of next week.
