Harbaugh’s head coaching career started with the University of San Diego, where he led the program to five straight wins to the end of the season. In the next two seasons as well, he had an almost flawless record of 11-1. Followed by this, he replaced Walt Harris to become the head coch at Stanford University in 2007. There he went 29-21 during 4 years, leading them to an Orange Bowl win in 2010.

2011 marked the year when Jim Harbaugh stepped into the realm of the NFL for the first time. Just four days after winning the Orange Bowl, Harbaugh shook hands with the 49ers on a 5-year $25 million contract. Throughout his four years with the 49ers, Harbaugh became the talk of the town, with making it to the playoffs in three of his four years. In 2011, Niners lost to Giants in the NFC Championship game. In the next year, they became the NFC Champions but lost to Ravens in the Super Bowl.
