Caleb Williams maintains his body like a temple, but even he has guilty pleasures. And it’s a childhood guilty indulgence, one that his dad passed down to him. As the Bears are gearing up to welcome Williams to the Solider Field, they better stock up on the one thing Williams can’t spend his meals without- his favorite beverage.

Cold ginger beer. The unhealthy obsession of the projected first pick of the 2024 draft. Although the drink in itself is not unhealthy, “how many I drink could be pretty unhealthy,” Williams confessed to GQ.

“I drink about three of these a day. I drink with every meal. I don’t carry ’em with me, but maybe I might start,” the Trojans QB admitted. When asked about his preferred brand, Williams said, “Fever-Tree right now is the best one I believe.”

While his indulgence might not be such a rare thing, its origin story sure is for the QB. In his interview with GQ, he admitted that it wasn’t the best thing he tasted when he first tried it. However, “My dad got me on it,” Williams said reminiscently. “He always told me, ‘Puts a little hair on your chest, so be prepared’,” the QB added further.

Surely the ginger beer remains one pronounced leaf out of the father-son book of bonding, but his childhood story of turning his back to the LB position remains one of the finest.

In his GQ profile, Caleb Williams credited the making of the QB who is touted to be the next Patrick Mahomes at the age of just 20 years to his dad, Carl Williams. All it took was one loss at the age of 10, back when he used to play as running back and linebacker in his high school, for little Williams to reconsider his life choices.

Caleb Williams was sitting alone on a bench the night he lost, weeping his sorrows away, when his father took the reins of his son’s career in his hands. “If I’m going to play quarterback, I want to be the greatest quarterback who ever played the game,” Williams had promised to his dad then. It was the night that Carl Williams decided, alongside his two friends who were youth football coaches in the area, to create a plan to make 10-year-old Caleb the greatest quarterback possible. The process is hardly ever easy but he pulled it off quite well.
