Michigan program prepared for tough times when Jim Harbaugh left them. What was not expected was the team that Harbaugh built from scratch, leaving with him. Earlier, Michigan boasted the best of the coaches across the conferences as their coaches. Now, the ones who pushed UM to its pinnacle like Jesse Minter and Ben Herbert, along with the guy who held the program together, Jim Harbaugh, have left. Amidst all this, is another vacancy in the staff looming over Michigan?

Per Jordan Strack’s reports, it seems so. Warde Manuel, the athletic director of UM, has been a hot target for fans since Jim Harbaugh shifted to the Chargers. Per reports, he didn’t ‘lock Harbaugh soon enough’ and delayed negotiations with him. Jesse Minter and Ben Herbert’s leaving only fueled the fire even more, prompting the slogan of “Fire Warde Manuel” further.

Well, Strack’s reports would come as music to their ears, as he reported that “President Ono is going to have to decide to move on from Warde Manuel & it has to happen soon.”  He also stated that things weren’t ‘looking great at Ann Arbor’.

On the other hand, Sherrone Moore is trying his best to patch things up at UM. However, Harbaugh has left a legacy, along with winning a natty and a flawless record. Too tough to replicate when he is head coaching for the first time. Sherrone Moore, along with having to exceed the expectations that the last coach set, also has to build his new team now. Well, Jim Harbaugh might have just made the already tough process even more tough for Moore.

Jim Harbaugh eyes Michigan’s DC prospects

Sherrone Moore has announced one replacement and one retainment at Michigan. He has replaced Ben Herbert with Justin Tress and retained Abigail O’Connor. However, the fundamental position in staff, that of the defensive coordinator, still stands vacant. Jesse Minter has set the bar too high with his defense ranking no. 2 overall in 2023 as well. Hence, the fulfillment of his position is the precarious part.

His in-house options were Co-DC Steve Clinkscale and defensive line coach Mike Elston. Bad news for Moore, Harbaugh has his eyes set on these two, wanting to make them join his Chargers team. Safe to say, the headlines of two more staff members leaving Michigan and joining Jim Harbaugh at the Chargers won’t come off as shocking news. However, it will surely make Moore struggle to multiply.
